         The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nava Nakorn Electricity Generating Company Limited (NNEG) for the Feasibility Study Project of the Energy Smart City Development in the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone, Pathum Thani Province. The purpose is to conduct a feasibility study for the use of power innovation to develop power generation from renewable energy, raise the standard of energy management, and support the growth of the Thai industry.

         On June 4, 2019, Mr. Patana Sangsriroujana, EGAT’s Deputy Governor - Strategy, and Mr. Thanathit Choisaeng, NNEG’s Managing Director signed the MOU for the Feasibility Study Project of the Energy Smart City Development in the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone, Pathum Thani Province. Air Chief Marshal Dr. Nopporn Chandawanich, NNEG’s Chairman attended the ceremony along with Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, EGAT’s Assistant Governor - Research, Innovation and Business Development; and Mr. Worawit Chantaramalai, NNEG’s Deputy Managing Director - Commercial and Corporate Management who both signed as witnesses. The ceremony which was held at VIP Meeting Room, Level 20, T.102 Building, EGAT Headquarters was joined by EGAT and NNEG executives.

         Mr. Patana Sangsriroujana, EGAT’s Deputy Governor - Strategy said, the feasibility study for the development of the energy smart city is another step towards cooperation in energy system development for the industrial estate area. The objective is to support power generation from renewable energy which has become more important due to the rapid development of technology. The project will help advance energy innovation in accordance with the government’s Energy 4.0 policy, raise Thailand’s energy management standard to be efficient, and support EGAT’s mission to secure the overall energy system security.

         Mr. Thanathit Choisaeng, NNEG’s Managing Director said, nowadays, the business of power generation from solar power in the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone, Pathum Thani Province has expanded. In order for the power generation and distribution in NNEG’s industrial zone to have efficient management, NNEG has collaborated with EGAT to study the feasibility of the mentioned development. This reflects the intention to support the growth of the Thai industry including energy and environmental conservation, and to promote the use of alternative energy in both organizations.

         The duration of the feasibility study for the development of the energy smart city is one year from the signing date. The scope of the study includes the study of the potential of installing distributed generation in the area, the management guidelines for smart grid that qualify as smart city, the technical and financial impact on the power plant and distribution system of Nava Nakorn Power Plant, and the investment budget for businesses and returns for NNEG business networks. EGAT will study and develop the energy smart city and NNEG will act as a consultant supporting information and entering the area.
