         EGAT and the Thailand National Committee of CIGRE (TNC-CIGRE) held a seminar on Thailand Power Grid Transition to exchange knowledge and experiences on power technology from Thai and foreign experts, and also held the first committee meeting of 2018.

         On June 28, 2018, Dr. Norkun Sittipong, former Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Energy and the president of TNC-CIGRE chaired the opening ceremony of the 2018 CIGRE academic seminar under the concept of Thailand Power Grid Transition held by EGAT and TNC-CIGRE to exchange knowledge and experiences on power technology from Thai and foreign experts. Mr. Junyong Wongjunpong, EGAT’s Assistant Governor - System Control, as the president of the academic committee of TNC-CIGRE reported the objective along with Mr. Roengchai Khongthong, EGAT’s Assistant Governor - Transmission System Maintenance. EGAT executives and officers, representatives from agencies of TNC-CIGRE, educational institutions, and more than 150 interested individuals attended the seminar at Vayupak 5 Meeting Room, Vayupak Convention Center, Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre, on Chaeng Watthana Road, in Bangkok Province.

         The lectures at the seminar comprise Ready for Smart Power Grid Transition - Practical Experience in Transformer Online Monitoring under Technical, Operational and Commercial Aspects by Mr. Thomas Kessler, Head of Portfolio Management, Transformer Services, Siemens AG, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanapong Siwanasri, professor and researcher from the Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS) of King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB); New Technology of Cable and Power Transformer Online Monitoring by Mr. Nopporn Boonpian and Mr. Sornchai Buakaew from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA); Digital Substation - Trend and Key Technology & New Development of Smart Grid by Mr. Li Li, SC B5 National Member of China NR Deputy Chief Engineer, NR Electric Co., Ltd.; and Forecasting of Electricity Production from Renewable Energy Power Plants by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somporn Sirisumrannukul from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of KMUTNB.

         Dr. Norkun Sittipong, in addition to being the president of TNC-CIGRE, was also the president of the first TNC-CIGRE committee meeting of 2018 at BB Meeting Room, Vayupak Convention Center, Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre, on Chaeng Watthana Road. The purpose of the meeting was to update the operational progress, discuss future plans, and welcome new members including representatives from 3 agencies namely PTT Public Company Limited, Precise Digital Economy Co., Ltd., and Precise Electro-Mechanical Works Co., Ltd.; 2 individuals namely Mr. Roengchai Khongthong, EGAT’s Assistant Governor - Transmission System Maintenance, and Mr. Sanit Dansamasathid, EGAT’s Director of Transmission System Business Management Division; and for the first time, 3 student members. Therefore in 2018, the number of TNC-CIGRE members increased to 27 agencies, 31 individuals, and 3 students. Becoming a member is a great opportunity to exchange information and foreign technology, which plays an important role in the country’s power security. This is consistent with the policy of Ministry of Energy that wants the government and private sector to work together closely to plan, construct, and acquire power sources to meet the country’s power demand in the future.
