          EGAT held a groundbreaking ceremony for Mae Moh Units 4-7 Replacement Project. The ultra-super critical technology power plant would be highly efficient and environmentally friendly with less fuel consumption. It would be a model for the future coal-fired power plants. The plant’s commercial operation date (COD) will be in November 2018.

          On January 8, 2016 Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, EGAT Governor, chaired the groundbreaking ceremony for Mae Moh Units 4-7 Replacement Project. Mr. Kovit Kantapasara, President and CEO of GE Thailand, Mr. Shinichiro Ogoshi, Marubeni Power Systems Corporation’s Vice President, Mr. Ratanachai Namwong, Deputy Governer - Power Plant Development, Mr. Thaworn Ngamganokwan, Deputy Governer - Fuel, and EGAT’s executives also joined the ceremony at Mae Moh EGAT, Lampang Province.

          Mr. Kriangsak Pulchalerm, Director of Mae Moh Units 4-7 Replacement Project, said that EGAT was constructing steam turbine and generator building as well as installing steam generator structure, power plant stack base, FGD machine, cooling tower, coal conveyer system and others with 18% construction completion. Its COD will be on November 13, 2018.

          Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, EGAT Governor, said that because of EGAT’s emphasis on social, community and environment responsibility, EGAT chose the best and the most efficient electricity generating technology which could reduce pollution emission and was environmentally friendly. Mae Moh Units 4-7 Replacement Project would be a model for the future coal power plants. This would build people and society’s recognition of EGAT’s commitment : ‘Power for Thai Happiness’.

          Mae Moh Units 4-7 Replacement Project will replace the existing ones which started operation in 1984 and will be discharged on December 31, 2018. The new plant with the capacity of 600 megawatts is EGAT’s first ultra-super critical coal power plant which is the most advanced and efficient technology. It can reduce fuel usage and pollution emission to conserve environment. The flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) systems will be installed to reduce CO2 emission. The new system which can dispose of NOx will also be installed to control the effect on environment. Moreover, real-time air quality can be monitored via Pollution Control Department’s online system to assure that the EGAT power plant’s air quality is always better than standards.
