         EGAT lifted the first column of the South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project - Phase 1 (SBRP1) to strengthen the power system security in the metropolitan area and to support the growth of the economy and industry. The project’s commercial operation date is December 2019.

         On January 23, 2018, Mr. Kodshayut Boriboonchatuporn, EGAT’s Deputy Governor - Power Plant Development chaired the SBRP1 First Column Lifting Ceremony. Mr. Chairat Gatngern, Director of SBRP1, Mr. Markus Lorenzini, CEO of Siemens Limited, Mr. Christian Bergmann, Head of Project Execution of Siemens AG, Mr. Soji Sakai, President of Marubeni Thailand Company Limited, along with company representatives, executives, and EGAT officers joined the ceremony at the South Bangkok Power Plant, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan Province.

         Mr. Kodshayut Boriboonchatuporn, EGAT’s Deputy Governor - Power Plant Development said the ceremony was for the first column lifting of SBRP1’s Turbine Hall No.1. The construction of each section is moving forward as planned with the cooperation and support of the executives, officers, divisions of the South Bangkok Power Plant, and the contract company, in implementing the project including the construction, power plant operation, and community relations. The project is expected to be complete and begin commercial operations as planned in order to strengthen the power system security in the metropolitan area and Thailand.

         Mr. Chairat Gatngern, Director of SBRP1 said the SBRP1 is in the Thailand Power Development Plan 2015-2036 (PDP 2015) and was approved by the cabinet on October 11, 2016. EGAT had signed a joint contract with Siemens AG, Siemens Limited, and Marubeni Corporation. The project will replace the capacity of the South Bangkok Power Plant Units 1-5 which will be discharged in 2018. The new power plant is a single-shaft combined cycle power plant with a net capacity of 1,234.3 MW. It uses natural gas as a primary fuel for electricity generation and diesel as a supplementary fuel. The power plant is located in Bang Prong Sub-District, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan Province, which is the current location of the South Bangkok Power Plant. The purpose of SBRP1 is to meet the electricity demand and support the growth of the economy and industry in the metropolitan area, which is the center of the nation’s electricity demand. The project will strengthen the power system security to be prepared to supply electricity at any time by using more efficient technology that does not affect the electricity cost and is friendly to the society, community, and environment.

         Mr. Chairat Gatngern added, the construction progress of the SBRP1 is at 38.2 percent. The project is currently at the piling and foundation work of the power plant building, steam generator building, cooling tower, and control center building. The commercial operation date of the SBRP1 is December 2019.
