          On February 11, 2019, Mr. Prajuab Doncommul, EGAT’s Director of Mae Moh Mine Planning and Management Division as EGAT representative received Thailand Green and Smart Mining Awards 2019 chaired by H.E. General Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, in the 2nd Thailand Green and Smart Mining Forum 2019 on “New step: From Policy to Implementation,” and also participated in the discussion forum on the topic “New Step of Thai Mining to Green and Smart Mining,” held at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok.

         Mr. Prajuab Doncommul, EGAT’s Director of Mae Moh Mine Planning and Management Division said that Thailand Green and Smart Mining Awards, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, is awarded to enterprises which operate their mining business in accordance with good governance. EGAT aims to develop the mining operation with good governance, as well as producing and supplying coal fueled for electricity generation at Mae Moh Power Plant strictly in compliance with environmental impact prevention and mitigation measures of the environmental impact assessment report (EIA). In addition, several technologies have been applied to improve the operation efficiency such as Telemetry System for environment management on dust and water, Real-time Slope Stability Monitoring for coal pit stability, old conveyor belts modified to be noise barriers, Infrared Thermography (IR) for inspecting hot spots in coal pit and soil dumping area to prevent coal ignition. All of these can guarantee that EGAT Mae Moh Mine which emphasizes on generating electricity fueled by lignite with clean technologies is environmentally friendly and sustainably raises quality of life of people in its vicinity.

         Thailand Green and Smart Mining Awards held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, is awarded to the enterprises which have already received the Green Mine Award 2018, Mine Category, from Department of Primary Industries and the “Excellence” Mines and EIA Monitoring Award, Mine Category, from the Office of Natural Recourses and Environmental Policy and Planning, as well as announcing their intention to operate their mining business in accordance with good governance and environmental friendliness.
