          EGAT cooperates with the consulting company to hold the 2nd public hearing for the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) which will kick off on August 16, 2018. This public hearing aims to hear opinions of stakeholders in Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chachoengsao, and Chon Buri provinces on environmental impact monitoring and preventive measures specified in EIA draft.

          Mr. Anuchart Palakawongse na Ayudhya, Assistant Governor – Project Community Relations and Environment said that EGAT has cooperated with ERM-Siam Co., Ltd., a consulting company that conducts Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Floating Storage and Regasification Unit: FSRU to hold the 2nd public hearing. This hearing will cover the areas in Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chachoengsao, and Chon Buri provinces. The first forum will start on August 16, 2018 at Mueang Samut Prakan district office in Samut Prakan Province, while the last forum will be on September 24, 2018 at Fisheries Association of Samut Sakhon Province.

          The 2nd public hearing will present the study result of the concerns on environmental impacts gathered from the 1st public hearing and the draft of environmental impact monitoring and preventive measures. After that, the floor is open for public opinions in compliance with transparency and participation principles that EGAT adheres to.

          FSRU, FSRU port, and natural gas pipeline from FSRU are projects to support fuel acquisition for power generation and the electricity demand growth in the future. According to Energy Policy and Planning Office’s resolution on December 8, 2016, EGAT is appointed to operate the FSRU project, where its site is at the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, to accommodate imported LNG for 5 million tons per year approximately to be transferred to South Bangkok Power Plant and North Bangkok Power Plant. Moreover, this project will enhance natural gas transfer to its existing pipeline network. After the 2nd public hearing is complete, all opinions and recommendation will be gathered for the complete report and submitted to other related sectors for approval by 2019. Then the construction will start, and the system test is scheduled between 2020-2023 before the operation of natural gas transfer will start in 2024.
