         799 locals in the area of South Bangkok Power Plant attended the 3rd public hearing to offer opinions and concerns on South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project Phase 2. People of all sectors participated and expressed their opinions openly with transparency according to the law so that the environmental health impact assessment (EHIA) will cover all concerns and have the greatest benefit to stakeholders.

         On April 28, 2018, Mr. Kamon Chiangwong, Deputy Governor of Samut Prakan chaired the 3rd public hearing to review the environmental health impact assessment (EHIA) of South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project Phase 2 conducted by SECOT Co., Ltd.. Acting Maj. Anuchart Palakawongse Na Ayudhya, EGAT’s Assistant Governor - Project Community Relations and Environment, Mr. Adisak Kitcharoentanaruk, EGAT Director of South Bangkok Power Plant Production Division, Mr. Siriwat Thanaponlert, Chief of Samut Prakan Energy Office, locals in the 5 km radius of South Bangkok Power Plant, head of government office, government officials, educational institutions, religious institutions, factories, environmental organizations, the press, and interested citizens totaling 799 people participated in the hearing from 8.00 am - 12.30 pm at General Purpose Building 3, Poochaosamingprai Municipality Office, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province.

         Mr. Khanchai Kriangkraiudom, the environmental specialist of SECOT Co., Ltd. said that during the 3rd public hearing, the consulting company presented the results of the environmental impact assessment, measures to prevent and resolve the problem, and measures to monitor environmental impact for the stakeholders to add their opinions to the previous 1st and 2nd public hearings. Most of the citizens had concerns about the environment, safety, public utility, health, including spending the power development fund to develop the community around the power plant into an ecotourism community and create jobs and revenue for the locals in the area. The consulting company will consider all concerns from the hearing and technical aspects to create a complete EHIA report before the submission to Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and associated agencies for further consideration. Acting Maj. Anuchart Palakawongse Na Ayudhya expressed his thanks to the locals for their participation in the EHIA process. EGAT ensures that we will maintain the power system security of the country with the concerns on environment and community as the priority.

         South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project Phase 2 has an installed capacity of 1,470 MW. It will be built in the area of the existing South Bangkok Power Plant to replace South Bangkok Power Plant Units 1-2 which will be decommissioned from the system in 2020 and 2022 respectively. The project uses natural gas as a primary fuel and diesel as a supplementary fuel. The new power plant will use modern technology, have high efficiency, and emit less pollution to strengthen the stability of the power system in the Bangkok and metropolitan area.
