Chana Power Plant is located in Chana District, Songkhla Province and constructed in compliance with the Thailand Power Development Plan B.E. 2557-2558 to strengthen the power system in the lower part of southern Thailand whose industry and tourism growth increases the electricity demand by 6% annually. Chana Power Plant was combined-cycle plant using the natural gas from Joint Development Area between Thailand and Malaysia (JDA-A18) as fuel. The power plant was comprised of 2 blocks with the net capacity of 1,436 MW. The first block with 710 MW generating capacity was commercially operated in July 2008, while the second block with the capacity of 766 MW started supplying the power to the system in July 2014.

Chana Power Plant is the model plant EGAT has applied the public participation process during the 3 phases: before, during, and after the construction. The ideas, concerns, and comments from the local people were developed for power plant designation. They were also placed in the Environmental Health Impact Assessment report to find out the preventive measures and solution for the benefits of community. The power plant has also joined in developing the community in various aspects including religion, education, health, and career support to enhance the quality of life of local people. Moreover, the power plant participated in conserving and restoring the environment such as releasing fish to various water sources and supporting Na Thub Blue Crab Bank to sustainably increase the number of marine lives in the Na Thub canal.

Inside the power plant site is the learning center built to exhibit the knowledge on energy: power generation from various fuel, power conservation, environmental management and etc. With the use of the modern, innovative, and attractive learning media, the center opens for students and general public to have fun in learning about energy. They will be able to apply the knowledge to their daily life and will realize the value of power.
