Mr. Thaworn Ngamganokwan said that the CM&USD 2017 was organized for the first year by the cooperation of the leading institutes on mining engineering namely Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Prince of Songkla University. It aims to be a floor for academics, researchers, and students around the world to share knowledge and experiences on coal mining industrial development as well as its technological development.

The CM&USD 2017 is comprised of seminar topics on coal mining and utilization including five special topics which are “Coal Mining under New Minerals Act, B.E. 2560” by Mr. Wisanu Tabtieng, Deputy Director – General, Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM), “Can Renewable Energy Totally Replace Coal In World Plants?” by Assoc. Prof. Pinyo Meechumna, the Distinguished Member of National Minerals Management Policy Committee, “Coal-fired Power Plant with Clean Coal or HELE Technology” by Mr. Mikio Ando, Senior Engineer, Strategic Planning and Information Department of Japan Coal Energy Center (JCOAL), Japan, “Challenges of Coal Mining in India and Scopes of New R&D Initiatives and Global Partnership” by Prof. Dr. Khanindra Pathak, Independent Director, Coal India Limited, Department of Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India, and “It’s not over, when It’s over – Mine Closure and Post Mining: Significance, Challenges and Solutions” by Mr. Karl Kleineberg, Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola, Germany.

Moreover, there is an exhibition to show innovations which won awards such as Automatic 3-stage Differential Elevation Series-Flow Pumping System that can efficiently pump the water from the pit; and Distribution Bunker Cleaning Equipment that can solve the problem of coal deposited at the building, to promote safety in the workplace and supply the coal to Mae Moh Power Plant on time. Apart from that, 54 academic topics divided into 8 categories which are Drilling and Blasting, Mining System and Planning, Geo-technics in Mining, Mine Environmental and Monitoring, Mine Occupational Health and Safety, Post Mining and Mine Reclamation, Coal Processing and Utilization, and Socio-Economic Aspects in Mining are presented by the academics, researchers, and EGAT officials.
