          Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) jointly hosted the 11th ASEAN Residential School in Electric Power Engineering (ARSEPE). This program aims to promote the cooperation among ASEAN power utilities and to exchange knowledge, ideas and experiences of smart and digital power generation technology, leading to latest development and sustainable security of power business in the region.


         On June 17, 2019, Mrs. Bhawana Aungkananuwat, Deputy Governor – Administration presided the opening ceremony of the ARSEPE hosted by EGAT, MEA and PEA during June 17 - 28, 2019. On this occasion, Mr. Patana Sangsriroujana, Deputy Governor – Strategy delivered a keynote speech on “ASEAN Power Grid in the Future.” There were participants from 7 ASEAN countries, i.e., Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, attending this program at the Crystal Ballroom, Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom Hotel, Bangkok.


         Mrs. Bhawana Aungkananuwat said that relevant persons in the power industry are facing the challenges resulting from changes of power generation technology including global trend toward eco-friendly renewable energy, the technological transformation into digital system for smart power plant and ASEAN Power Grid for the utmost benefit and allocation of energy resources in the region. The ASEAN Power Grid is an upcoming power generation technology on which ASEAN countries should share information for latest development and sustainable security of electric power in the region.


         This program was organized under the concept of “Transformation towards Smart and Digital Utility in Disruptive World.” The speakers consisted of experts on electric power from 3 Thai electricity authorities and educational organizations, providing lectures with the following topics: Smart Grid Technology, Grid in the Future and Conclusion, Communication Technology in Smart Grid, Driving forces/Policy and Trends/New technology, Renewable Energy and Energy Trading and Digital Energy in Smart City. Moreover, the site visits were held at the OpenLab of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) in Bangkok and SCG Floating Solar Solution in Rayong Province to present Smart Grid in real situation and technological advancement of Thailand.
