On December 17, 2021, three top organizations joined forces to help raise the quality of EV services and launched the ‘EleX by EGAT x BMW’ EV charging station at Market Village shopping mall in Hua Hin District. Representatives of the organizations who attended the opening ceremony include Mr. Krisda Utamote, Corporate Communication Director of BMW Group Thailand (BMW), Mr. Vathunyu Visuthikosol, Executive Vice President - Business Development of Home Product Center Public Company Limited (HomePro), and Mr. Warit Rattanachuen, Assistant Governor - Governor's Office of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).


         Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor revealed that EGAT was pleased to work with the business partners, namely BMW, a leader of Thailand’s premium cars market, and HomePro, a leader in Home Solution and Living Experience, by opening the EV charging station to support the transformation of Thailand’s energy sector and EV industry as well as to drive the country towards carbon neutrality. This ‘EleX by EGAT x BMW’ charging station is considered the 18th charging station that EGAT designed and installed, and is managed by the network operator system ‘BackEN’ which was developed by EGAT. The charging station has a fast charger and normal charger of 120 kW and 22 kW with three charging dispensers which can support two cars simultaneously. The station is now open for service to the general public and customers of Market Village in Hua Hin. Users can reserve, charge, and pay easily via the application ‘EleXA.’



         In 2021, EGAT opened a total of 28 commercial EV charging stations nationwide. To welcome the new year; BMW, HomePro, and EGAT have joined together to open seven more commercial EV charging stations apart from the one in Hua Hin. Four stations will be located in the center of Bangkok for EV users living in condominiums and apartments; the other three stations will be near the entry and exit points of the east section of the Outer Ring Road (Kanchanaphisek Road) and the Bang Pa-In – Nakhon Ratchasima Motorway near Khao Yai National Park. The collaboration between EGAT and BMW will ensure that EV users arrive at their destination in Hua Hin and Kao Yai confidently. Meanwhile, the collaboration with HomePro to install EV charging stations at HomePro and Market Village will support the ‘charge and shop’ lifestyle. All stations are now open for service to the public nationwide. In 2022, EGAT plans to expand the EV charging stations to cover all travel routes in the country and all types of lifestyles in order to support the increasing number of EV users. Moreover, in January 2022, EGAT will open 14 more stations along the main roads in all regions of Thailand.


         Mr. Alexander Baraka, President of BMW Group Thailand revealed that it was an important day when BMW and EGAT joined forces to help drive Thailand’s EV master plan. BMW pioneered EVs in Thailand since 2014, and during these past years have assembled many BMW plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models at the factory in Rayong Province. Besides the BMW i3s and Mini Cooper SE, during the previous month, BMW has entered the ‘New Electric Era’ with the introduction of the new battery electric vehicle (BEV) models by launching the multi-purpose EV sports cars, BMW iX and iX3 that come with the newly developed 5th generation BMW eDrive technology and the latest battery technology. The electric BMWs and Minis will help meet the demands of the growing EV market. BMW continues to acquire new concepts and innovations to advance towards a future driven by technology combined with driving aesthetics to be delivered to customers with sustainability, and will continually introduce new EV models to Thais continuously. The opening of the ‘EleX by EGAT x BMW’ at Market Village in Hua Hin and Midwinter restaurant in Kao Yai will support the growth of the EV market and lessen the people’s worries about the distance while traveling.


         Mr. Vathunyu Visuthikosol, Executive Vice President - Business Development of HomePro revealed that HomePro was pleased to become a business partner with EGAT to contribute locations for installing EV charging stations for EV users in the country, and to be a part of expediting the development of the country’s infrastructure to support the increasing use of EVs in the future. This will help people be assured when choosing to use EVs as well as promote environmental sustainability for Thailand.          This collaboration to install and open EV charging stations introduces a new experience to Thai EV users to meet their new lifestyle demands, raises the comfort and confidence level during their trip, stimulates the tourism and economy in the country, and drives the country towards a low carbon society.
