          EGAT, Neurological Institute of Thailand under Department of Medical Services, and Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health jointly kicked off “NIT Mobile Stroke Unit” for stroke patients in Nonthaburi Province to timely access to treatment, reducing death and disability rates.

          On December 24, 2021, EGAT held “Kick off MSU,” an event to launch a mobile stroke unit of Neurological Institute of Thailand (NIT Mobile Stroke Unit), enabling proactive diagnostic tests for neurological disorders for people in Nonthaburi Province. The event was chaired by Dr. Somsak Akksilp, Director-General of Department of Medical Services and attended by Adjunct Assistant Professor Dr. Thanin Wechapinan, Director of NIT; Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Dr. Rungruethai Muanprasitporn, Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Doctor; and representatives from Nontaburi communities at EGAT Headquarters, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province.

          Director-General of Department of Medical Services said that NIT has developed a proactive medical service system by launching the mobile stroke unit, which has been supported by EGAT, to increase access to treatment for stroke patients. The unit helps reduce waiting time for treatment, contributing to reduction of death and disability rates.

          Director of NIT added that being a hospital specialized in neurological system and spinal nerves, it has developed the NIT Mobile Stroke Unit to serve patients with acute stroke living in Northern Bangkok. Those stroke patients need immediate medical care and treatment, especially blood clot-dissolving drug. Moreover, the patients must receive Computerized Tomography Scan (CT scan) of the brain and access to treatment within 4.5 hours after stroke symptoms begin.

          EGAT Governor said that EGAT is pleased to provide an area for the NIT Mobile Stroke Unit to locate, as well as to supply the electricity used for installing the unit’s system and for providing diagnosis and treatment to the patients. With a concern on the health of the public, EGAT has recognized an importance for stroke patients to timely access to treatment with modern medical equipment and standard services.

          The Doctor of Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health said that the Office of Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health always supports the NIT Mobile Stroke Unit to provide proactive diagnostic tests and treatment for stroke patients in Nonthaburi Province. This illness is regarded as a critical healthcare problem of the country, so the patients require urgent treatment with modern medical equipment and standard services. Besides, to handle the illness, collaboration from every sector is needed.
