EGAT signed the memorandum of understanding with Office of the Under Royal Graciousness under the project: His Majesty the King’s 87th Birthday Anniversary, “Mae Moh Community towards a Sharing Society”. The MOU aims to grow the Juncao 4190, a kind of Chinese grass, in the site of Mae Moh Power Plant and conduct the feasibility study to use it as fuel for EGAT’s biomass power plant project.

Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, EGAT Governor, and Mr. Chainarin Nopchaloemroj, the Secretary-General of the Office of the Under Royal Graciousness signed the MOU of His Majesty the King’s 87th Birthday Anniversary, “Mae Moh Community towards a Sharing Society” at EGAT Head Office, Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi.

EGAT Governor revealed that EGAT in collaboration with Office of the Under Royal Graciousness had conducted the research on the Juncao 4190 that China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology had given to His Majesty the King. The grass was planted at Mae Moh Power Plant and developed to be the energy plant that would be used as fuel for the biomass power plant, responding to EGAT policy in supporting the alternative energy development.

The MOU of His Majesty the King’s 87th Birthday Anniversary, “Mae Moh Community towards a Sharing Society” was under Royal Graciousness Project: 87 Communities towards Sharing Society. It was founded under the theme “Agriculture in Modern Day and the Juncao 4190, People Foster Forest and Forest Fosters Communities” to develop 87 remote communities whose lands were not suitable to grow economic plants. Office of the Under Royal Graciousness as the owner of Juncao 4190 patent would give the sprout to EGAT and the communities around Mae Moh Power Plant, which would further plant and reproduce it to be the fuel, along with waste and agriculture residues, for the alternative energy power project in the site of Mae Moh Power Plant. This alternative energy development project was under the Power Development Plan 2010, 3rd Revision.

The Juncao 4190 is a hybrid plant of sugarcane, bamboo, and grass, which can endure the harsh environment. When it is processed to become wood pellet, it will provide the energy of 4,190 kilocalories per gram. That is why it is called Juncao 4190. Also, it has the sulfur value of only 0.10 percent.

“EGAT has the willingness to establish the model of sharing society, support careers, and increase the income for the communities in the vicinity of Mae Moh Power Plant. EGAT also supports the implementation of the 87th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King Project, “Mae Moh Community towards a Sharing Society” to be highly successful as the tribute for His Majesty the King in the auspicious occasion of his 87th Birthday Anniversary on December 5, 2014”, said the Governor.
