          EGAT has opened 3 development and learning centers on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy in Srinagarind Dam, Bhumibol Dam, and EGAT Mae Moh to carry on the King’s Philosophy of “Khok Nong Na Model” (Mound, Pond, and Paddy Field). The centers aim to revive local economy and stabilize food, water, and energy provision to get prepared for dealing with the global crisis in the future.

          On February 22, 2021 Dr. Wiwat Salyakamthorn, Chairman of Agri-Nature Foundation and Chairman of World Soil Association presided the opening ceremony of development and learning centers on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy for the public to learn about Khok Nong Na Model. The ceremony was also joined by Mr. Somwang Boonrayong, Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi Province; Mr. Ardnarong Sattayapanich, Inspector-General of Community Development Department; Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Governor – Strategy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and EGAT management at Srinagarind Dam in Kanchanaburi Province.

          The Deputy Governor – Strategy of EGAT said that EGAT emphasized social and environmental responsibility, particularly the communities and environment around EGAT power plants, dams, and transmission lines. Many projects, including the development and learning centers on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, have been implemented for the sustainable happiness of the communities. The 3 centers at Srinagarind Dam in Kanchanaburi Province, Bhumibol Dam in Tak Province, and EGAT Mae Moh in Lampang Province are now ready to welcome those who are interested in New Theory Agriculture of Khok Nong Na Model. The knowledge gained from the centers can be adapted for strengthening the community for self-reliance, reviving grassroots economy, and stabilizing food, water, and energy provision for handling the future global crisis.

          Moreover, the centers emphasize on applying renewable energy in the area, especially biomass. Food waste and animal manure is fermented to produce biogas for household cooking. Water pumps powered by solar cells are installed, while energy crops are planted in the areas. Many activities are done based on local wisdom.

          EGAT is planning to open more development and learning centers on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy by 2022, totaling 10 centers, namely Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit Province, Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi Province, Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Ubol Ratana Dam in Khon Khaen Province, Chulabhorn Dam in Chaiyaphum Province, Wang Noi Power Plant in Ayutthaya Province, and Bang Pakong Power Plant in Chachoengsao Province.
