EGAT expected the number of people with eyesight problem taking part in the Wan Kaew Project would reach 30,000 at the end of 2014. EGAT further set the goal to help the additional 60,000 people in 2015 as the tribute to HRH Princess Sirindhorn.

Mrs. Suthatsanee Waniya, the Director of Social Affairs Division, EGAT, said that for 10 years EGAT in alliance with Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) and Better Vision Group Co., Ltd. had provided the free mobile service units under the Wan Kaew Project to help the total of 200,000 poor people. Also in 2015, the project aimed to help the additional 60,000 people as the tribute to the 60th Birthday Anniversary of HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s who, 10 years ago, donated her money to help the poor people with the vision problem.

Wan Kaew Project was initiated in 2003 when the princess was 48 years old. EGAT intended to implement the project as the honour for her as it was heard that she donated her personal money for 60,000 baht to the needy with eyesight problem through Eyeglass Bank, Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing). Because EGAT regarded the profits the people would gain, the Wan Kaew Project was implemented in collaboration with Metta Pracharak Hiospital (Wat Rai Khing) and Better Vision Group Co., Ltd.

“Every time that EGAT is on mobile service units, the volunteers from organizations that participate in the project as well as local people, not less than 30 people, who are coordinating staff, nurses, and optometrists, provide the free vision test to the people by using modern and efficient tools. Approximately 600 people can be served each day. In this year EGAT’s mobile optometry service can serve the total of 319 units covering 10 provinces. The last three units were served at Mueang District and Khon San District in Chaiyaphum Province from December 12-14, 2014,” said the Director.

EGAT holds a campaign “your kindness...for eyeglasses” persuading people to join the celebration of HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s 60th Birthday Anniversary in 2015 by donating their money to purchase 60,000 eyeglasses which account for 15 million baht. EGAT initiatively donated 6 million baht. Currently, the donation amount is about 11 million baht. Those who are interested in the project can donate the money to the Krungthai Bank account “Wan Kaew Project Donation” with the account number 734-0-19152-6.
