          EGAT collaborated with Nakhon Ratchasima Province by Sports Authority of Thailand, and Pak Chong Healthy Walk and Run Association to organize Korat Half Marathon Loifaa 2020 with a “new normal” measure to win HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Trophy. Runners across the country joined the event amidst cool breeze and stunning view of the upper reservoir and wind farm of Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant.

          On December 13, 2020 Mr. Wichien Chantaranothai, Nakhon Ratchasima Governor, chaired the opening ceremony of Korat Half Marathon Loifaa 2020 to win Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati Trophy. The event was also attended by Mr. Chadalom Wongduang, Director of Office of Sports Authority of Thailand - Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Mr. Prasert Intub, Assistant Governor – Renewable Power Plant of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), government and public sectors, general public, and 2,500 runners at the upper reservoir of Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant, Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

          The Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province said that the Korat Half Marathon Loifaa 2020 is one of the activities that encourage people to work out for good health. It is also a part of Sports City Project which uses sports to stimulate local tourism, a way to drive the economy and promote tourism in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

          The EGAT Assistant Governor said that the event had been held for 9 consecutive years on the upper reservoir of Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant. With beautiful view, it is suitable for holding sport events and becomes tourist attraction of the province. Korat Half Marathon 2020 was organized with a concern on New Normal, COVID-19 preventive measures. The participants had to wear sanitary mask, register the name, and pass temperature check before entering the event area. The runners could also receive the race result by scanning QR code on their bibs. This complies with environmental conservation concept, reduces paper use, and maintains social distancing.

          The race was divided into 3 categories: 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10.5 km Mini Marathon, and 3.5 km Fun Run. The winner of Half Marathon who was Thai received the HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Trophy and cash of 15,000 baht, while the foreigner received the honorable trophy and cash of 15,000 baht. Moreover, there were 10 awards for runners that wear fancy clothes. The net income will be spent for social activities of various organizations.

          The event brought smiles and happiness. The participants could work out, see splendid view of the upper reservoir of Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant, drive the local economy, and create income for communities by shopping local products.
