Ubon Ratchathani Province joins hand with EGAT for reviving tourism by promoting hydro-floating solar hybrid power plant at Sirindhorn Dam as a new renewable energy learning center and tourist attraction, which will create jobs, generate income for locals, and stimulate the overall economy of the province.

          On March 29, 2021 Mr. Sarit Witoon, Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province and Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) visited the Hydro-floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam which is being developed to be a renewable energy learning center and new tourist attraction of Ubon Ratchathani Province. The site visit was also joined by the local government officials, the press, and EGAT management and officials at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon Ratchathani Province.

          The Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province said that one of the province’s development strategic plan is to promote trade, investment, and tourism. With historian sites and traditions that attract both of Thai and international tourists, the province earns the main income from tourism. Sirindhorn Dam of EGAT not only benefits irrigation, waterworks, water transport, and electricity generation, but also becomes an important tourist attraction.

          The Hydro-floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam, which is the electrical power development from clean energy, will attract tourists to see a beautiful view of the first hybrid floating solar panels of Thailand. The project is in line with the development plan of Ubon Ratchathani Province which focuses on economy growth and environmental friendliness. Moreover, it will help support living conditions of the locals, generating income and creating jobs for the sustainable happiness.

          The EGAT Governor said that EGAT gives an importance on renewable energy development for electricity generation as this kind of energy is clean and helps mitigate global warning. The Hydro-floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam with the capacity of 45 MW is the combination of solar energy and hydropower plant systems. It is equipped with Energy Management System to evaluate and control the two systems to properly generate electricity in each period, which results in continual electricity output, renewable energy’s intermittency resolving, and security of power system as a whole. It is regarded the biggest hydro-floating solar hybrid system of the world. Its commercial operation date is planned in June 2021.

          Moreover, EGAT is going to develop the project to be a learning center on renewable energy for students and general public. The Nature Walkway has been built as a new tourist attraction, which will open to public by the end of 2021. EGAT will provide the facilities for the tourists, including local product market, souvenir shop, bicycle-rental shop, tourist bus stops, rafting area, etc. It is expected that this new tourist destination will help stimulate tourism, generate come, and create jobs for the locals.
