First “Supernova” charger in Asia now available to public
30 June 2022EGAT launched “Supernova,” the first smart fast-charger under the brand “Wallbox” in Asia to support EV public charging and promote eco-friendly transportation.
Mr. Sathit Krongsut, Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that EGAT had partnered with Wallbox Chargers N.V., Spain to install “Supernova,” the first smart DC fast-charger under the brand Wallbox in Asia, in front of Khun Sai Chol Coffee Shop, EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters in Nonthaburi Province. This collaboration reflects Thailand’s opportunity to become an EV manufacturing base, enhances public charging convenience, offers great experience to EV drivers, and promotes eco-friendly transportation to achieve a Low Carbon Society.
As the Supernova charger can supply up to 60 kW of power, it can add up to 100 km of range to any electric vehicle within 15 minutes, and its efficiency up to 97%. EGAT officials and technicians of Wallbox Chargers N.V. jointly tested the charging with three different EV cars, namely Nissan LEAF and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV whose charging connector type is CHAdeMO as well as Audi e-tron whose charging connector type is CCS2. The test covered safety system, charging speed, charging efficiency, continuity of power transfer, durability, and operating systems. The test results show that the Supernova charger meets the safety standard.
Supernova is a DC fast-charger which is suitable to be installed at tourist attractions, restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, department stores, office buildings, car rental service providers, and charging stations to support EV drivers who visit the places at least 30 minutes to one hour. It has compact, modern, minimal, and easy-to-install design, together with low maintenance cost and smart energy management that enhances charging convenience and power-saving.
EGAT plans to install the Supernova chargers at various EleX by EGAT charging stations. The customers can use the service via EleXA application. Moreover, EGAT will sell the chargers to businesses, car companies, and those who are interested within the third quarter of this year.
