Material Topics
Process to determine material topics [3-1]
EGAT conducts an annual review of its material sustainability topics. In 2024, the review and identification of these topics were conducted in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards 2021. This process aims to identify the sustainability topics that EGAT must address and to assess their significant positive and negative impacts on stakeholders throughout the value chain. The process consists of the following steps:
1. Understanding the Organizational Context
Reviewing EGAT’s activities and business relationships across the supply chain, stakeholders, policies, strategies and material topics from the previous year. This also includes benchmarking against sustainability standards and material topics of leading organizations in similar industries, both domestically and internationally, to identify initial sustainability topics.
2. Identifying Impacts
Gathering stakeholder feedback on initial sustainability topics regarding actual or potential economic, social, environmental and human rights impacts both positive and negative. Stakeholders were also invited to suggest additional issues which were found to align with the initial sustainability topics.
3. Assessing the Significance of Impacts
Stakeholders were invited to assess the significance of the identified impacts by considering the severity of actual negative impacts, the likelihood and severity of potential negative impacts, the scale and scope of actual positive impacts and the scale, scope and likelihood of potential positive impacts.
4. Prioritizing Impacts
The identified impacts were prioritized and subsequently reviewed by external experts. The results were then presented to the Governance and Social Responsibility Committee for endorsement of the material sustainability topics.
