Wan Kaew Project
In 2003, EGAT initiated the “Wan Kaew Project” in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 48th birthday anniversary together with strategic partners namely Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) and Better Vision Co., Ltd., (Hor Wan). The project provides free eye examinations and eyeglasses to underprivileged and vulnerable individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, the project campaigns for donations of eyeglasses, lenses, and financial support, anticipating cooperation public and private organizations in improving the quality of life and reducing inequality in access to basic healthcare services.
In 2024, EGAT organized the mobile eyeglasses service under the Royal Commemoration Project to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024. The project targets the distribution of 72,000 eyeglasses through the following activities:
- 18 mobile units at Somdej Phra Yupparat hospital, providing 27,000 eyeglasses
- 26 mobile units for communities around EGAT and partners’ area, totaling 25,000 eyeglasses
- Eyeglasses donations for vulnerable groups—including patients, the elderly, and persons with disabilities—in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, totaling 20,000 eyeglasses
