On October 28, 2021, Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) delivered the 2021 Green Classroom along with information technology media about energy and environmental conservation to Mr. Adisorn Dangruen, Director of Rat Pracha Nu Khro 31 School in Chiang Mai Province. The ceremony was joined by Dr. Wiwat Salyakamthorn, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Pracha Taerat, former Minister of Interior, Mr. Patana Sangsriroujana, advisor to the Minister of Energy, Mr. Boonlue Thammanurak, Mae Chaem District Chief, Director of the Special Education Bureau, and the school committee. The Green Classroom will be a place for learning and developing youth who will help conserve energy and the environment, which will expand into the society and country in the future. It is also a part of advancing towards carbon neutrality.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor said that EGAT’s Green Classroom Project aims to share knowledge about safe and efficient use of electricity along with environmental conservation. Establishing a Green Classroom with learning media is an important foundation for building a sustainable learning society. Fostering an energy and environmental conservation attitude to the youth will become an important strength that will expand into the household, society, and community. The project also supports the EGAT Carbon Neutrality goal through support mechanisms for concrete compensation and avoidance of carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

For this operation, it was a collaboration between EGAT and Rat Pracha Nu Khro 31 School to establish the 2021 Green Classroom to be a learning space about energy and environmental conservation in the form of on-site and virtual learning. It can be connected to other schools to exchange knowledge and create energy and environmental conservation networks, leading to a society which shares, passes on, and exchanges knowledge together. The solar panels installed on the roof of the classroom building also generate clean energy to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage learning by practical application. Meanwhile, a Green Classroom community was formed to develop youth equipped with knowledge and awareness, who can become leaders of sustainable energy and environmental conservation in their daily lives, both at the individual and school levels, and also expand into the surrounding community. EGAT has teamed up with the following ally agencies: Prince Royal’s College, San Pa Tong High School, and YMCA for Northern Development Foundation, to do networking activities in order to drive energy and environmental conservation activities continuously and concretely. EGAT’s Green Classroom Project has been continually implemented since 1998. Currently, there are a total of 484 schools nationwide that have participated in the project.
