1. Bulk Power Supply for the Greater Bangkok Area Project, Phase 2 (GBAS2)

Being a successive project of the Bulk Power Supply for the Greater Bangkok Area Project, Phase 1, the investment cost of GBAS2 is 9,170 million Baht consisting of the construction of transmission lines of 89.03 circuit-kilometers and a new substation, expansion of six substations, installation of transformers of 6,800 MVA and capacitor bank of 384 MVAr, and 21 miscellaneous works relating to the transmission system expansion. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 97.27%. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.

2. Transmission System Development Project for Power Purchase from Independent Power Producers (IPPP)

The objective of the project is to link the power purchase from four Independent Power Producers (IPPs) with the total capacity of 4,400 MW to EGAT’s system. With the investment cost of 7,025 million Baht, the project consists of the construction of transmission lines of 170.2 circuit-kilometers and two new substations, expansion of six substations, installation of transformers of 1,000 MVA, and six miscellaneous works relating to the transmission system expansion. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 76.84%. The three sub-projects have been completed, and one sub-project is underway, namely the project of Burapa Power Generation Co., Ltd. to support the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of which the cost of 2,120 million Baht for new transmission facilities (NTF) will be borne by the company. It is expected to be completed in 2026.

3. Transmission System Renovation and Expansion Project, Phase 1: Substation (RSP1)

The project involves the improvement, replacement, or addition of transmission equipment to the control building of aged substations. The project costs 3,815 million Baht for the renovation of 15 substations. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 88.59%. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.

4. Main Transmission System Expansion Project for Power Purchase from SPP Cogeneration Power Plants, Based on Request for Proposal 2010 (SPPC)

This project is the expansion of the main transmission system to accommodate the power purchase from SPP’s cogeneration power plants. The project costs 10,610 million Baht and comprises the construction of transmission lines of 490 circuit-kilometers and a new substation, expansion and improvement of control and prevention system of 102 substations, and installation of transformers totaling 2,500 MVA. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 92.00%. The project is scheduled for completion in 2025.

5. Transmission System Renovation and Expansion Project, Phase 1: Transmission Line (RLP1)

This project involves the renovation of aged and deteriorated transmission lines. The project costs 9,850 million Baht and comprises the construction of 15 transmission lines of 331 circuit-kilometers and renovation and expansion of 14 substations. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 93.53%. It is scheduled for completion in 2026.

6. Transmission System Development Project in the Area of Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, and Khon Kaen Provinces for Power Purchase from Lao PDR (LNKP)

The purpose of the project is to accommodate power purchase from Xayaburi Hydroelectric Plant in Lao PDR to enhance power system security. The project costs 12,060 million Baht comprising the construction of transmission lines of 496.77 circuit-kilometers and two new substations, expansion of four substations, and installation of transformers totaling 1,400 MVA. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 98.349%. It is scheduled for completion in 2023.

7. Transmission System Renovation and Expansion Project, Phase 2 (RTS2)

Being a successive project of the Transmission System Renovation and Expansion Project, Phase 1, the project costs 21,900 million Baht and comprises the construction of 11 transmission lines of 1,267 circuit-kilometers as well as construction, renovation, and expansion of 19 substations. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 82.23%. It is scheduled for completion in 2027.

8. Transmission System Improvement Project in Eastern Region for System Security Enhancement (TIPE)

The purpose of this project is to enhance the security of the power system, cope with the increasing number of new power plants, and promote the expansion of the industry and tourism in the region. The project costs 12,000 million Baht and comprises the construction of transmission lines of 469.664 circuit-kilometers and three new substations, expansion of a substation, installation of transformers of 3,000 MVA, and eight miscellaneous works relating to the expansion of the transmission system. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 41.30%. It is scheduled for completion in 2027.

9. Bulk Power Supply for the Greater Bangkok Area, Phase 3 (GBA3)

The project is a successive project of the Project on Bulk Power Supply for the Greater Bangkok Area, Phase 2 (GBA2). The objective of this project is to respond to the increasing demand for electricity in the Greater Bangkok area which is the most important economic area of the country and enhance the security of the national power system. The project costs 12,100 million Baht and comprises the construction of transmission lines of 266.91 circuit-kilometers and two new substations, expansion of four substations, installation of transformers of 2,425 MVA, and 32 miscellaneous works relating to the expansion of the transmission system. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 68.49%. It is scheduled for completion in 2025.

10. Transmission System Expansion Project, Phase 12 (TS12)

This project is a successive scheme of the Transmission System Expansion Project, Phase 11 (TS11). The project costs 60,000 million Baht and comprises the construction of transmission lines of 3,427.58 circuit-kilometers and nine new substations, expansion of 124 substations, installation of transformers of 26,201.5 MVA, and 215 miscellaneous works relating to the transmission system expansion. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 71.11%. It is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

11. Transmission System Improvement Project in the Western and Southern Regions to Enhance System Security (TIWS)

The objective of the project is to enhance the security of the electricity system. The project involves the construction of the 500 kV transmission lines and additional improvement of the 230 kV transmission lines to cover the electricity supply to the Southern part of Thailand in the long run. The project will increase the capability of the transmission system from the West and the Central to the South and promote the expansion of business, industry, and tourism in the region. Moreover, the project will solve the problem of power outage in the South. The project costs 63,200 million Baht comprising the construction of transmission lines of 2,192 circuit-kilometers and a new substation, expansion of five substations, installation of transformers of 4,000 MVA, and eight miscellaneous works relating to the transmission system expansion. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 71.986%. It is scheduled for completion in 2026.

12. Transmission System Improvement Project for System Security Enhancement of the Northeast, Lower North, and Central Parts, including Bangkok Metropolitan (TIEC)

The objective of the project is to enhance the power system security, accommodate the 25% renewable and alternative power projects in 10 years (2012-2021) with the total capacity of 13,927 MW under the Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP2015), and support the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) system. The project costs 94,040 million Baht comprising the construction of transmission lines of 1,358 circuit-kilometers, expansion of 12 substations, installation of transformers of 10,000 MVA, and eight miscellaneous works relating to the transmission system improvement. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 58%. It is scheduled for completion in 2030.

13. Transmission System Improvement Project for the Upper Northern Region for System Security Enhancement (TIPN)

The project involves the transmission system improvement for the Upper Northern Region by the construction of additional 500 kV and 230 kV transmission lines to support the rising electricity demand in Chiang Mai and Lamphun Provinces, enhance system security, respond to the power demand in the long run, and support the power plant projects in neighboring countries and the APG system. The project costs 12,240 million Baht comprising the construction of transmission lines of 426.27 circuit-kilometers, expansion of three substations, and installation of transformers of 2,600 MVA. As of December 2022, the progress of this project was 12.09%. It is scheduled for completion in 2024.

14. Transmission System Project for South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project, Phase 1 (SBR1)

This project supports the new power plant to replace the 1,330 MW South Bangkok Thermal Power Plant, Units 1-5, decommissioned in 2019. The project costs 1,090 million Baht and comprises the construction of 230 kV underground transmission lines of 1.0 circuit-kilometer from the switchyard of South Bangkok Power Plant to its substation and the expansion of South Bangkok Substation. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 88.39%. It is scheduled for completion in 2023.

15. Transmission System Improvement Project in Lower Southern Region to Enhance System Security (TILS)         

The project involves the construction of the transmission system of 500 kV from Surat Thani Province to Songkhla Province and additional improvement of the transmission system of 230 kV and 115 kV. The objective of the project is to enhance the security of the power system of the South in the long run; cope with the electricity demand of residential, business, industry, and tourism sectors; support the link of the baseload power plants or renewable power plants according to the government policy; tackle natural gas supply disruption or the annual overhaul of pipelines; and support the APG system and power purchase from neighboring countries. The project costs 35,400 million Baht and comprises the construction of transmission lines of 1,409 circuit-kilometers and two new substations, expansion of nine substations, and installation of transformers of 4,000 MVA. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 24.77%. It is scheduled for completion in 2028.

16. Transmission System Development Project for Power Purchase from Independent Power Producers, Phase 3 (IPP3)

The objective of the project is to link the power purchase from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to EGAT’s system to cope with the rising demand for electricity in the Eastern and Central parts of the country, increase agility in the control and supply of electricity in the Eastern region, and solve the power shortage when the power plants need to be disconnected from the system and closed for overhaul. As of November 2022, the progress of the project was 67.68%. It is scheduled for completion in 2023.

17. Transmission System Development Plan for the Power Plant of Hin Kong Power Co., Ltd. (THKP)

The objective of this project is to enhance the security of the power system in the Western and Southern parts of the country by construction, expansion, and improvement of the electricity system to support the link with Hin Kong Power Co., Ltd. as assigned by the regulatory body and according to PDP2018 Rev.1. The project costs 165 million Baht. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 21.66%. It is scheduled for completion in 2023.

18. Transmission System Development Plan for Power Purchase from SPP Firm Cogeneration Power Plants of which the Power Purchase Agreement Expires in 2019-2025 (TSFC)

The project is prepared as assigned by the regulator to accommodate the power purchase from the SPP Firm Cogeneration system to maintain the security and stability of EGAT’s power system concerning the operation of the preventive and control system equipment. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 48.10%. It is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Transmission System Projects under Approval Process

1. Transmission System Development Project for Linking Floating Solar Power Plant with Hydro Power Plant of Ubol Ratana Dam (URS1)

The objective of the project is to maximize the use of renewable energy, reduce energy import, and maintain the overall generating capacity of renewable power plants according to PDP2018 Rev.1. The 24 MW Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid of Ubol Ratana Dam is planned to be in commercial operation by 2023.

2. Transmission System Development Project for South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement Project, Phase 1 (SBR1)

This project involves the construction of the 230 kV transmission system to support the new power plant that replaces the decommissioned South Bangkok Power Plant, Units 1-5 and Blocks 1-2, to maintain the security of the electricity system. As of December 2022, the progress of the project was 88.39%. It is scheduled for completion in 2023.
