EGAT shows off latest smart EV charger ‘Supernova,’ making headway with charging station business to promote green traveling
2 December 2021For the first time in Thailand, EGAT launched ‘Supernova,’ the latest smart DC Fast Charger under the brand EGAT + Wallbox, as well as a modern EV charging technology which uses clean energy to promote eco-friendly traveling. Those who visit EGAT’s booth at the Motor Expo 2021 starting today until December 12, 2021 will get a chance to win many more special privileges.

On December 1, 2021, Mr. Sathit Krongsut, Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) chaired the launching ceremony of ‘Supernova,’ the latest DC Fast Charger under the brand EGAT + Wallbox for the first time in Thailand at the Motor Expo 2021 held at Challenger Hall 3, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani.

Mr. Sathit Krongsut said, during the past year, EGAT hurried to develop the infrastructure to support the country’s EV ecosystem so that EV users can feel assured while using EVs under the EGAT EV Business Solutions, especially the expansion of the EleX by EGAT charging stations along the main and secondary roads, government offices, hospitals, and department stores. The number of EV charging stations is expected to increase to 40-50 stations by the start of 2022. EGAT is ready to enter the EV charging station business with ‘Supernova,’ the latest smart DC Fast Charger under the brand EGAT + Wallbox. Some of its notable features include a smart energy management system that conserves energy by supplying a large amount of energy while using fewer resources. It is also almost 50 percent cheaper compared to the same type of charger and has a low maintenance cost, which will help cut expenses for small and medium-sized enterprises that are interested in investing in EV charging stations.
Supernova has been designed to support the maximum capacity of EVs in the market. It can supply power up to 60 kW with only a 15-minute charge and can run 100 km. It also supports connectors of all automobile manufacturers, including CCS and CHAdeMo. Moreover, in the future, if any enterprises wish to increase the capacity to 100 kW, they can upgrade it without purchasing a new charger.
EGAT’s booth also displays an eco-smart system, a smart EV charging technology which users can choose between charging power from the grid or from green energy, such as solar rooftop. Furthermore, the booth visitors can receive a special discount of up to 4,000 baht when buying any model of the Wallbox charger (except Quasar) and get free EleXA points to use as discount when charging at EleX by EGAT charging stations, or when buying products included in the promotional campaign in the EleXA application. Essentially, this encourages the use of EVs in Thailand, a way towards carbon neutrality and a low carbon society by implementing eco-friendly traveling activities and electricity generation operations.
