Acting Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources, U.S. Department of State joined a visit to view a residential smart grid system ‘ENGY Energy is Yours’ under EGAT’s ERC Sandbox Project and praised integration of clean energy and power technologies for housing, another step towards low carbon society.

Mr. Harry Kamian, Acting Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources, U.S. Department of State and his officer team viewed the residential smart grid system ‘ENGY Energy is Yours’ under ERC Sandbox Project, the cooperation between the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), to test innovations that apply technology to support energy services. Dr. Poonpat Leesombatpiboon, Executive Director of International Affairs Division, Ministry of Energy; Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Governor – Strategy of EGAT; Mr. Direk Tayakee, Head of Living Solutions, SC Asset Corporation Public Company Limited; and Mr. Charukorn Ruangsuvan, Corporate General Manager, Office of Product Planning, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Company Limited welcomed Mr. Harry Kamian at Venue Flow Chaengwattana in Nonthaburi Province on February 18, 2022.

Mr. Harry Kamian praised the Government of Thailand and EGAT for their effort to apply modern energy technology to develop residential energy services, especially Micro Energy Management System. EGAT has developed this system to manage household energy consumption and integrate the electricity supply from solar rooftop with the power from vehicle to grid (V2G) and from battery energy storage system. The effort shows the intention to promote uses of electricity generated from clean energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

‘ENGY Energy is Yours’ is a project to test five innovations that apply technology to support energy services, namely 1) Peer to Peer Energy Trading Platform to study new electricity market structures 2) Net Metering and Net Billing to study new service rate structures 3) Study of new technologies, e.g., Electric Vehicle (EV) and Energy Storage System 4) Power system management innovation: Microgrid 5) Supply and Load Aggregator. EGAT has already tested these innovations in three pilot sites which are Venue Flow Chaengwattana, Perfect Park, and Casa Premium Ratchapruek-Chaengwattana.
