EGAT invites Thais to save energy with ‘Free A/C Cleaning – Label No.5 Promotion’ to cope with energy crisis

EGAT prepares to open for registrations for ‘Free A/C Cleaning – Label No.5 Appliances Promotion’ totaling 20,000 applicants starting this April and invites Thais to save energy to cope with the energy price crisis.

Mr. Suttipong Chalermkiat, Assistant Governor – Corporate Strategy and Deputy Spokesperson of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that due to the ongoing global energy price crisis affecting the country’s overall economy, EGAT is underway to launch a campaign ‘Save Energy for All to Withstand the Crisis Together’ to encourage all sectors to conserve and use energy efficiently.

The campaign is expected to save energy up to 1.3 million units/year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions of around 804 tons/year through two activities. In ‘Clean Your Air, Clean Your Life’ activity, EGAT will collaborate with the Thai Air Conditioning Traders Association to give free A/C cleaning services to 10,000 applicants nationwide, as cleaning the A/C every six months can reduce energy consumption by 10%. For the other activity, EGAT will promote the use of high-efficiency electrical appliances by joining hands with department stores and retailers to give 500-baht discounts to 10,000 customers who buy up to 1,000 baht of Label No.5 electrical appliances.

Moreover, adjusting electricity use behavior can also help save electricity cost, such as using electrical appliances with starred-Label No.5, turning off the switch and removing the plugs after using the appliances, choosing appliances suitable for the usage and room size, increasing the temperature of the A/C, wearing breathable clothes, etc.

Aside from the campaign, EGAT is managing other fuels for electricity generation to substitute the high-cost LNG, such as using bunker oil and diesel instead of gas, as well as increasing electricity generation from coal, in order to reduce the impact on electricity cost and ensure sufficient electricity for Thailand’s demands.
