EGAT-NSTDA to open 150-kW EV charger testing lab on July 15 to support entire EV ecosystem in Thailand
12 July 2022EGAT joined with NSTDA to advance the entire EV ecosystem in Thailand by upgrading the 150-kW EV charger testing lab of the Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC), EV Division, to support Thailand’s EV charger entrepreneurs, reduce import, develop the large EVs in public transportation industry, and fight the rise of oil prices. The lab will open on July 15, 2022.

On July 7, 2022, Mr. Warit Rattanachuen, Assistant Governor – Project Management Office of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Mr. Sathit Krongsut, Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development of EGAT; Mrs. Ketwarong Hongladaromp, Vice President – Special Affairs of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA); and Dr. Kraison Aunchaleevarapan, Director of the Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC) attended the launching of the testing center for high-powered electric vehicle (EV) chargers of IEC 61851 standard at the Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC), EV Division, Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani Province.
Mr. Warit Rattanachuen revealed that this cooperation is an important step in advancing the EV ecosystem in Thailand. Both organizations aim to establish international-level safety standards of EV chargers for public transportation, both on roads and in rivers. EV charging stations are considered a part of the EV ecosystem; besides having suitable locations, being safe, and covering all travel routes, the “standard” of the charging station is important to build confidence for customers of both normal and converted EVs.
“EGAT joined with NSTDA to build confidence for customers and support Thailand’s EV charger entrepreneurs by developing a standardized EV charger testing lab at PTEC, EV Division, Thailand Science Park. The lab upgraded from being able to test only 60 kW chargers to 150 kW chargers, which will allow those interested in manufacturing chargers to test their products to be up to standards and develop Thailand’s EV charger testing knowledge. The lab will open on July 15, 2022. This testing center will greatly benefit the country and is an opportunity to create EV charger innovations as well as enhance Thailand’s EV industry to be strong and sustainable,” Mr. Warit Rattanachuen stressed.
Dr. Kraison Aunchaleevarapan added that due to the government’s policy for Thailand to remain a global manufacturing base for traditional and electric vehicles, many agencies have joined forces to promote EV use, including manufacturing batteries, assembling EVs in the country, and utilizing EV’s in public transportation. PTEC saw EGAT’s vision and determination to build an EV ecosystem and joined to develop this testing lab. The lab gives priority to the testing of powerful 150-kW DC chargers for public transports, electric tractor heads, and electric ferries in hopes of reducing overseas testing costs, manufacturing costs, and development time, which will result in less expensive EV chargers that can compete in the market.

Additionally, NSTDA via PTEC offers international-level standard testing of other important EV parts, such as lithium-ion batteries, electric motorcycle battery modules, EV battery packs, as well as testing of energy efficiency of No.5 electric motorcycles, electronic parts of various vehicles, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of entire vehicles. PTEC and EGAT are ready to support Thailand’s EV ecosystem concretely to continuously support the development of the EV industry with sustainability.
