EGAT wins four EIA Monitoring Awards 2021, reflecting sustainable social and environmental responsibility
15 August 2022EGAT won four awards for the Mae Moh Lignite Mine Project, Chemical Industry Limestone Mine Project, Bang Pakong Power Plant Project, and Fuel Transportation via Krabi Thermal Power Plant Pipeline Project at the EIA Monitoring Awards 2021, reflecting EGAT’s determination to take care of environmental impacts and social responsibility in electricity generation.

Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, chaired the awarding ceremony of the EIA Monitoring Awards 2021 during the 2022 academic conference of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), in which the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) received four awards. Mrs. Ranee Kositvanich, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel; Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy; Mr. Prajuab Doncommul, EGAT Assistant Governor – Mae Moh Mine; and Mr. Tanyaboon Sakolkitiwat, EGAT Assistant Director – Southern Region Power Plant received the awards as representatives of EGAT. The event was also joined by a network of allies from public and private sectors, NGOs, and educational institutions, held at the Grand Ballroom, 4th Floor, Miracle Grand Convention Hotel.
Mrs. Ranee Kositvanich, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel said that as an organization with the mission of electricity generation for power system security of the country, EGAT has always placed importance on taking care of the environment coupled with its operation. In 2022, EGAT received four outstanding EIA Monitoring Awards 2021 for the following projects. Mae Moh Lignite Mine Project integrated measures to prevent and solve environmental impacts and monitored the results along with government agencies and local government organizations continuously, as well as supported social, cultural, traditional, educational, and healthcare activities in the surrounding community. Chemical Industry Limestone Mine Project planned for the limestone production process to be used in the removal of sulfur dioxide in electricity generation of Mae Moh Power Plant, as well as monitored environmental quality in all aspects and carried out public benefit activities with the local community. Bang Pakong Power Plant Project received the ISO 14001:2015 standard by strictly adhering to measures to monitor environmental quality involving air, noise, and water; as well as promoting water ecosystem conservation activities with the local community. Lastly, Fuel Transportation via Krabi Thermal Power Plant Pipeline Project practiced its emergency plan annually and placed importance on the operation that takes the social, economic, and environmental conditions of the community into consideration; so that the project can co-exist with the community sustainably.
The EIA Monitoring Awards 2021 was held by ONEP, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to promote and persuade businesses to adhere to measures to prevent and monitor environmental impacts and to develop the mechanism of environmental management, as well as placed importance on following environmental measures for carrying out projects and being a good role model for other businesses.
