Bangkok Dock Company and EGAT hold keel-laying ceremony for Thailand’s first EV amphibious boat, to support green tourism
29 August 2022Bangkok Dock Company Limited collaborated with EGAT to hold a keel-laying ceremony for marking the start of ship construction of Thailand’s first EV amphibious boat, to promote green tourism. The collaboration also includes the development of five electric-driven aluminum barges for patrolling purpose, which will be piloted at Srinagarind Dam in Kanchanaburi Province in the next year.

Vice Admiral Wiroj Nilpong, Director-General of Royal Thai Naval Dockyard and Rear Admiral Thanakorn Changchit, Director of Mahidol Adulyadej Dockyard attended a keel-laying ceremony for Thailand’s first EV amphibious boat held by the Bangkok Dock Company Limited (BDC) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Mr. Prasert Intub, Assistant Governor – Renewable Power Plant laid the keel to officially mark the start of ship construction at the Bangkok Dock Company Limited (Sattahip) in Sattahip District, Chon Buri Province.
EGAT and BDC have jointly developed the first EV amphibious boat of Thailand to promote green tourism and reduce carbon dioxide emissions to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality by 2050. The EV amphibious boat will be made of aluminum alloy and have the length of not less than 9.50 meters. The six-wheel structure design will be driven by lithium-ion battery. Its charging system will be DC fast charger, CCS type 2. Its speed is not less than 40 km per hour on land and 10 km per hour on water, and it can carry at least 20 passengers. Its facilities include stereo, television, CCTV, and air-conditioning system.

Moreover, EGAT and BDC have been developing five electric-driven aluminum barges for patrolling purpose. Each of them is made of aluminum alloy, with the length of 5 meters and the width of 2 meters. The draft of the barge is around 0.30 meter, and it is driven by lithium-ion battery. Its charging system is AC charger, while its cruising speed is not less than 16 km per hour. It can carry 6 passengers.
The EV amphibious boat and the electric-driven aluminum barges will be piloted at Srinagarind Dam in Kanchanaburi Province in early 2023.
