EGAT discharges water of Ubol Ratana Dam to prepare for new rainfalls in Northeast
29 August 2022EGAT’s Ubol Ratana Dam increased the water discharge in response to the National Water Command Center to prepare for rainfalls in September.

Mr. Prasert Intub, Assistant Governor – Renewable Power Plant of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed the increased water discharge from Ubol Ratana Dam due to the National Water Command Center’s resolution to control the water level in line with the regulated level and make the storage capacity adequate for the new inflows from rising rainfalls expected at the beginning of this September. The increase of water discharge is executed in a step-up pattern from 15 to 25 million cubic meters per day.

Presently, the amount of water in the dam is 1,283 million cubic meters, or 52% of its capacity, higher than the regulated level by 1.51 meters or 348 million cubic meters; while the remaining storage capacity is 1,148 million cubic meters. Recently, the storm Mulan and monsoon trough have caused a continual high volume of water inflows, totaling 600 million cubic meters, since August 8, 2022.
EGAT has launched 13 measures to prepare for the 2022 rainy season, including monitoring data and dam safety, preparing the readiness of water discharge facilities and telemetry station, reviewing the water management plan, and informing of situations to the public.
