German Embassy, MFA, KMUTNB, and EGAT hold EV Hackathon for university students to show creative ideas for EV industry development
5 September 2022Embassy of Germany, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and KMUTNB held Future EV Mobility Creative Contest for Sustainability in celebration of 160 years of Thai-German relations, which was supported by EGAT and partners to develop the ability of university students, the key players to prepare Thailand for EV transition in the future.

Mr. Hans-Ulrich Südbeck, Charge d’Affaires and Head of Economic Affairs, German Embassy of Thailand; Ms. Marinee Suwanmoli, Director of Central Europe Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Dr. Suchart Siengchin, President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) co-chaired the opening ceremony of “The EV Hackathon for Sustainability #EV4Sustain.” Mr. Warit Rattanachuen, Assistant Governor – Project Management Office of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) also joined the event as a judge and sponsor, together with partners such as Metropolitan Electricity Authority, AAS Auto Service Co., Ltd., Schaeffler Manufacturing (Thailand) Co. Ltd., and Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Ltd. at Bencharat Auditorium of KMUTNB during August 27-28, 2022.

Mr. Warit Rattanachuen, Assistant Governor – Project Management Office of EGAT said that EGAT, as an energy organization that supports deployment of EV, realizes the importance of EV ecosystem development. To commemorate 160 years of Thai-German relations, EGAT supported the contest “The EV Hackathon for Sustainability” to develop creative skill of the students for integrating knowledge on technology, business concept, management, and EV development to prepare Thailand for the EV transition in the future. EGAT also played a part in the event as an instructor, judge, and exhibitor giving information about EGAT Carbon Neutrality and EGAT EV Business Solutions which inspired creative idea on energy and EV technology for the participants. Moreover, at the EGAT booth, the participants could test-drive EGAT electric motorbikes.
Out of 103 teams attending the contest, eight teams had been selected to the final round of 24-hour EV Hackathon to solve the problem: “Invent solution of sustainability in Bangkok Metropolis with EV Mobility Technology” assigned by Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin, Germany. The ACDC team from Chulalongkorn University was the winner receiving a 100,000-Baht cash prize. The first runner-up was the PorMayJedai team from KMUTNB receiving a 50,000-Baht cash prize, while the second runner-up was the Bangmod team from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) receiving a 25,000-Baht cash prize.
