EGAT – EXIM Bank invite entrepreneurs to save energy and reduce GHG with green refrigerant technology

15 September 2022

EGAT joined with EXIM Bank to create a network of Thai entrepreneurs to save energy, support the use of eco-friendly refrigerants, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, moving toward Thailand’s carbon neutrality goal.

On September 12, 2022, Mrs. Sriwan Buranachokepisal, Assistant Governor – Power Plant Planning of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Chairman of EGAT Cooling Innovation Fund (CIF), on behalf of EGAT signed the memorandum of understanding on the “Promotion of Energy Saving and Greenhouse Gas Reduction of Thailand under the EGAT Cooling Innovation Fund” with Mr. Ittipol Lertsakthanakul, Executive Vice President of Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank) held at the EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Mrs. Sriwan Buranachokepisal revealed that the proportion of electricity consumption from cooling appliances amounts to half of the total electricity consumption. It is also the sector with the highest greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, supporting high-efficient technology and eco-friendly refrigerants is the key to efficient energy consumption. Under the CIF, EGAT gives support through various projects by sharing knowledge on the use of eco-friendly refrigerants to help Thailand achieve carbon neutrality and net zero emissions.

Mr. Ittipol Lertsakthanakul said, EXIM Bank is a state-owned specialized financial institution which aims to develop the country by supporting the establishment of new industries that drive the Bio-Circular-Green Economy. This cooperation between EXIM Bank and EGAT will support projects that promote energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction in the air-conditioning and cooling industry by sharing knowledge on the use of eco-friendly refrigerants, as well as giving financial support. For example, the “EXIM Kill Bill by Biz Transformation” credit is for the exchange of cooling and energy-efficient appliances, with the lowest interest rate of 2.00% per year and a loan period of up to seven years in order to help entrepreneurs save electricity cost in the long term.
