EGAT wins ‘Excellence’ Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Award 2022
22 September 2022EGAT received ‘Excellence’ award under the Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Index Project of 2022 from Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization). This award clearly reflects EGAT’s concern on environment, society, economy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainability in every dimension.

Mrs. Sriwan Buranachokepisal, Assistant Governor – Power Plant Planning of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), as a representative of EGAT, received ‘Excellence’ award under the Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Index Project of 2022 from Mr. Kiatchai Maitriwong, Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) at the closing ceremony of the aforementioned project’s successful announcement on September 20, 2022 at Pullman King Power Bangkok.

Mrs. Sriwan Buranachokepisal mentioned EGAT’s commitment to electricity generation and transmission with modern innovations and technologies to deliver clean power with a concern on a balance between energy security, economy, society, and environment along with the promotion of energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. EGAT aims to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality by 2050 by implementing a strategy called “Triple S.” Sources Transformation is to increase the proportion of renewable energy in electricity generation, implement grid modernization to support the increase of renewable energy in the power system, and utilize energy storage system. Sink Co-creation is to increase carbon-absorbing sources by collaborating with partners to plant trees on an area of 1 million rai by 2031 and conducting a study to apply Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) at EGAT power plants. Lastly, Support Measures Mechanism is comprised of EGAT projects that avoid and offset carbon dioxide emissions. EGAT believes that this strategy will drive Thailand toward Carbon Neutrality by 2050 which is also enhanced by the collaboration of all sectors under the concept “EGAT for All.”
Mr. Kiatchai Maitriwong said that the award’s assessment process had been carried out with fairness and standards. He also congratulated 21 organizations receiving the award which could be regarded as good examples to businesses adjusting their operations to comply with the global trend of greenhouse gas reduction, to achieve Thailand’s Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Net Zero Emissions by 2065. All of these should be taken into account for the sustainable growth of the businesses.
