EGAT teamed up with the Netherlands’ I-REC Standard Foundation organizing Thailand’s first I-REC Standard Conference 2022 to raise REC issuance standard and promote green energy market, leading to ASEAN sustainable business operation.

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and International REC Standard Foundation (I-REC Standard Foundation) organized I-REC Standard Conference 2022 during October 31 – November 2, 2022, at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok Hotel. On November 1, 2022, Mr. Warit Rattanachuen, EGAT Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development, attended the seminar on the topic “Standardizing Global Attribute Markets,” together with Mr. Dirk van Evercooren, Board Member of I-REC Standard Foundation, Mr. Jared Braslawsky, Managing Director of I-REC Standard Foundation, and Mr. Nattachart Jarujinda, Managing Director of ReAcc Co., Ltd., to standardize energy attribute certificate and drive the mechanism of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) toward sustainable business operation in ASEAN.

EGAT Assistant Governor – Research, Innovation and Business Development said that the rising awareness in solving climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions causes countries, including Thailand, to focus on clean energy transition. EGAT has therefore announced the goal of EGAT Carbon Neutrality by 2050 to ensure the balance between generation cost, environmental impact, and power system security. To achieve the goal, it has implemented the “Triple S” strategy which is comprised of Sources Transformation – increasing the proportion of renewable energy; Sink Co-creation – absorbing carbon through the participatory reforestation project and CCUS technology; and Support Measures Mechanism – avoiding CO2 emissions through REC mechanism and EV promotion.
In the upcoming future, renewable energy generation will play a vital role in enhancing the trade competitiveness and potential of Thailand. As the sole REC local issuer, EGAT is ready to deliver RECs with international standards to RE producers for increasing their income. For two years, EGAT has issued the RECs to Thai RE producers totaling 5.3 million RECs and made leading companies accessible to reliable renewable energy sources. It aims at achieving the sustainability goal and increasing the country’s competitiveness in a global market, moving toward green and sustainable business operations of ASEAN.
