Saha Group joins with EGAT to expand green business and EV ecosystem to support all travel routes in Thailand and achieve sustainable low carbon society
2 May 2023SPI and EGAT signed a memorandum of understanding on business cooperation to support the EV ecosystem in Thailand, develop and open EleX by EGAT charging stations for EV users in the Saha Group areas, facilitate travelling around Thailand with confidence, and move toward sustainable low carbon society together.

On April 27, 2023, Mr. Vichai Kulsomphob, President & CEO of Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Limited (SPI), and Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), signed a memorandum of understanding on business cooperation to support the EV ecosystem in Thailand. Mr. Boonsithi Chokwatana, Chairman of Saha Group, and Mr. Kulit Sombatsiri, Chairman of EGAT, were the honorary witnesses at the ceremony held at EGAT Headquarters in Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Vichai Kulsomphob, President & CEO of SPI, revealed that this agreement is a part of the company’s intention to operate its business coupled with corporate social responsibility to move toward carbon neutrality. The mutual goal is to develop EV charging stations in the Saha Group areas as a pilot project for public and private agencies; raise the standard of Thailand’s EV ecosystem to be safe, convenient, and worthwhile, giving the highest benefit to the society; and develop related infrastructures to be more widespread. Supporting electric power usage not only reduces business cost but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which will sustainably benefit the society and environment.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor, said that EGAT is pleased that Sapa Group, by way of SPI, a leading organization in the consumer goods business that has been with Thailand for a very long time, has partnered with EGAT. EGAT believes that both organizations can offer their respective expertise and strengths to further the development for maximum benefit. Presently, EGAT has developed a complete EV ecosystem by providing EleX by EGAT charging stations, developing the EleXA application to be used with the charging stations, as well as providing a platform for managing the charging stations to facilitate those who are interested in installing EV charging stations themselves. Promoting EV transition not only supports the government’s 30@30 policy but also helps create a low carbon society and drives Thailand to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Net Zero Emissions by 2065.
Currently, both organizations have joined to develop and open an EleX by EGAT charging station in the parking building of J-Park Sriracha Nihon Mura Mall with five charging dispensers of 22-kW AC normal charge. Moreover, there is a joint study to install charging stations in Saha Group areas, such as KingBridge Tower and KingsQuare Residence, as well as to establish EV businesses in the Industrial Park.
