Green zoo model on energy management firstly introduced at Chiang Mai Zoo
27 June 2023EGAT joined hands with ZPO to launch “EGAT Smart Energy Solutions” project, an energy management model, at Chiang Mai Zoo, aiming at promoting green energy usage, reducing electricity cost, responding to tourist requirement, and driving Thailand toward Carbon Neutrality.
On June 26, 2023, The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (ZPO) and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) launched “EGAT Smart Energy Solutions” project to promote green energy usage, reduce electricity cost, and move toward Carbon Neutrality. On this occasion, Mr. Attapon Srihayrun, ZPO Director General; Mr. Wuthichai Muangmun, Director of Chiang Mai Zoo; Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy; and representatives from other organizations attended the event held at Chiang Mai Zoo, Chiang Mai Province.
Mr. Attapon Srihayrun, ZPO Director General, revealed that due to impacts of the global warming on humans around the world, all organizations have strived to achieve the country’s goal of Carbon Neutrality by promoting, maintaining, and emphasizing environmental responsibility. ZPO has the vision to be a top-notch and modern learning center, animal conservation site, and tourist destination in ASEAN. We are therefore ready to develop our places, logistic system, electric vehicle (EV) system, and energy to be a model for those interested. Applying EGAT’s solutions, the project is initially introduced at Chiang Mai Zoo and will be expanded to Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Khon Khaen Zoo, Ubon Ratchathani Zoo, and Songkhla Zoo. This will contribute to the highest efficient energy usage, electricity cost reduction, and clean energy deployment to lessen pollution reduction.
Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy, added that EGAT has set a goal of energy management with maximum efficiency and utmost benefit, moving toward Carbon Neutrality. Thus, EGAT has collaborated with ZPO to develop EV infrastructure and renewable energy for wildlife, nature, and environment. ZPO is responsible for zoos in several areas, especially in the cities with increasing tourists using personal EVs. With the same policy and direction on environmental conservation, the project of “EGAT Smart Energy Solutions” has therefore started to lower operating costs by solar rooftop installation with Energy Management System, construction of EleX by EGAT charging station, solar carport installation on the garage, and ENZY Platform application, in response to the requirement of users and zoo visitors.
