EGAT and Mae Hong Son Province launch EVs to serve public and tourists, promoting green tourism

Mae Hong Son Province and EGAT launched the fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) that are ready to serve the public and tourists, to promote sustainable green tourism and move toward Carbon Neutrality.

On June 29, 2023, Mae Hong Son Province and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) jointly launched a parade of electric vehicles (EVs) which was presided over by Mr. Chettha Mosikarat, Governor of Mae Hong Son Province. Mr. Somnuk Hasartsin, Mae Hong Son Provincial Transport Officer and Mr. Anusak Chantacram, Head of Mae Hong Son Smart Grid Pilot Project of EGAT also attended the event at the Clock Tower, Mae Hong Son Provincial Hall, Mueang District, Mae Hong Son Province.

Mr. Chettha Mosikarat, Governor of Mae Hong Son Province, said that with abundant natural resources as well as beautiful culture and architecture of the unique Tai Yai ethnic group, Mae Hong Son Province is a popular tourist destination for Thai and foreign tourists. Various organizations have collaborated to drive Mae Hong Son Province toward green tourist city by promoting the use of EVs for environmentally-friendly transportation and travel. The launce of the EV parade will offer the people of Mae Hong Son Province an opportunity to experience the services of electric bus, motorcycle, and bicycle. This also promotes the sustainability of Mae Hong Son Province in every dimension.

Mr. Anusak Chantacram, Head of Mae Hong Son Smart Grid Pilot Project of EGAT, added that Mae Hong Son Province, EGAT, and related agencies have taken part in the smart grid pilot project to develop stable generation and distribution systems which prevent power outages as well as to promote tourism and green city. The project includes installing solar street lights and the billboard displaying energy management, disaster alert, and provincial announcements. Moreover, it promotes EV deployment in which charging stations are open to serve Mae Hong Son people and the tourists. Under the smart city strategy, the project aims to improve the quality of life of Mae Hong Son people as well as promote tourism and environmental conservation in line with the national goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2050.

The EV parade is comprised of electric buses, whose sides were decorated with the design by Mae Hong Son locals to display the beautiful identity of the province; electric motorcycles; and electric bicycles. These public EVs will serve Mae Hong Son people and the tourists who visit the project site and EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong, a tourist attraction and renewable energy learning center that will be open to the public soon.
