EGAT and INNOPOWER join forces for grid modernization
29 August 2023EGAT and INNOPOWER signed the MOU on grid modernization to pave the way for renewable energy trend and create opportunities for Thailand.

Mr. Kitti Petchsantad, Deputy Governor – Transmission System of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and Mr. Athip Tantivorawong, Chief Executive Officer of INNOPOWER Company Limited, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on grid modernization in the fields of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) platform and center, and online management system for transformers on August 25, 2023 at EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters.

Mr. Kitti Petchsantad, EGAT Deputy Governor – Transmission System, revealed that the future transmission system will incorporate modern technologies to enhance grid performance. With the collaboration with INNOPOWER Company Limited on the development of transmission system technologies, it is a great opportunity for business expansion. Moreover, it is a significant opportunity for Thailand to step toward becoming a leader in grid modernization in the region.
Mr. Athip Tantivorawong, Chief Executive Officer of INNOPOWER Company Limited, added that being committed to investing in future energy innovations and technologies, developing new businesses, and collaborating with business partners; INNOPOWER is pleased to support the development of grid modernization, one of the energy strategies of EGAT Group and Thailand. This collaboration is a good beginning to pave the way for EGAT and the country’s bright future.

The transmission system technology is vital for dealing with the uncertainty of renewable energy and the future growth of electric vehicles. The technology can be divided into 4 categories, namely 1) Drone, robotics, and augmented reality/virtual reality to efficiently and quickly monitor operation and maintenance of transmission system, 2) Smart sensors and internet of things to integrate modern data management system into the transmission system so that any changes of transmission lines and substations can be monitored in real time, 3) Integrated data center platform to facilitate data awareness, tracking, and analysis of transmission system in every aspect, resulting in efficiency of data management, 4) Artificial intelligence that processes statistical data of the electricity, to improve efficiency and enhance stability of the grid for supporting the increasing renewable energy share and demand for electric vehicles.
