15 July 2024The Ministry of Energy and EGAT delivered the Smart Green Learning Room to Mathayom Vajiralongkorn Wararam School in Nakhon Ratchasima Province to enhance knowledge on energy conservation and also improved the energy efficiency of the school building with No.5 energy-saving appliances, reducing expenses for the school.

On July 12, 2024, the Ministry of Energy, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) delivered the Smart Green Learning Room as well as improved the energy efficiency of the school building of Mathayom Vajiralongkorn Wararam School in Nakhon Ratchasima Province to commemorate the 72nd birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X). Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk, Privy Councilor, presided over the ceremony while Mr. Chaiwat Chuenkosum, Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province; Mr. Thepparat Theppitak, EGAT Governor; Mr. Komol Buaket, Inspector General, Ministry of Energy; and executives from Ministry of Energy, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and EGAT also attended the ceremony.

Mr. Chaiwat Chuenkosum, Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, said that Mathayom Vajiralongkorn Wararam School was established by the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. In 2007, the school was named after His Majesty the King when he held the title of the Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. The Smart Green Learning Room will benefit the teachers and staff, expanding the knowledge on energy and environmental conservation to students in the area.

Mr. Thepparat Theppitak, EGAT Governor, revealed that the Smart Green Learning Room is a net zero emissions classroom due to the installed solar cells and battery energy storage system. There is a display that shows the amount of electricity being supplied to the classroom, the electrical circuit, and the electricity cost that was saved. There are also high-efficiency electrical appliances with No.5 energy-saving labels, such as air conditioners and LED lightbulbs. As a result, the electricity generated could compensate for electricity usage by 21,500 units per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 11.2 tons per year, increasing the building’s energy efficiency and saving electricity expenses for the school, as well.
EGAT has been conducting the Green Learning Room Project since 1998 to promote energy and environmental conservation among students with modern technology both online and on-site. It aims to empower the youth to become leaders initiating activities or innovations. The project can be expanded to students’ families and communities to create a sustainable green learning society. Currently, there are over 1,300 schools under the Green Learning Room Project with over 4 million students nationwide.
The Ministry of Energy and EGAT have jointly organized 10 projects to commemorate the 72nd birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Rama X, such as the Crown Prince Hospital Support Project, No.5 Solar Cell Installation in Royal Project Foundation Areas Project, No.5 Solar Cell Installation at Wat Maha That Wachiramongkol Project, Mobile Eye-glasses Service Unit Project, No.5 Student Uniform Support Project, Kanchanabaramee Foundation Support Project, Wellness Park to Commemorate the 72nd Birthday Anniversary Project, and Activities to Commemorate the 72nd Birthday Anniversary at Vajiralongkorn Dam Project.

In addition to educating the youth about energy through the Green Learning Classroom, there is the EGAT Learning Center – Lam Takong, a center for learning about renewable energy and electricity generation from hydrogen with modern media. It is one of eight EGAT learning centers located nationwide. Moreover, at the upper reservoir on Khao Yai Thiang, there are 14 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 26.5 MW. This place is a source of renewable energy and a significant tourist attraction of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, creating revenue for the community and enhancing the economy for the province.
