EGAT gets ready for 16-day JDA-A18 gas supply cut, affirming no impacts on power users in the South
30 July 2024EGAT has prepared five measures in response to the JDA-A18 natural gas supply cut due to annual maintenance from July 29 to August 13, 2024, affirming no impacts on power users of the South. EGAT also requests cooperation from all sectors in the South to save electricity from 6.00 to 9.30 p.m.

Mr. Nutawut Polprasert, Deputy Governor – Transmission System of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that the Malaysian-Thai Joint Development Area (JDA-A18) of the PTT Public Co. Ltd. is scheduled for its annual maintenance for 16 days from July 29 to August 13, 2024, resulting in the suspension of gas supply to Chana Power Plant in Songkhla Province, an important power generation source of the South. EGAT has therefore prepared five measures to avoid impacts on the overall electricity usage of the public, as follows:
Fuel: preparing adequate reserves of diesel oil at Chana Power Plant and bulker oil at Krabi Power Plant and a backup plan in case of delayed maintenance
Generation: adjusting Chana Power Plant to use diesel oil as fuel, contacting other power plants in the South for standing-by, and preparing for receiving power supply from Malaysia instantly in case of emergency
Transmission: inspecting the interconnection between the Central and the Southern regions, transmission lines, and equipment as well as halting other maintenance that may affect the power security
Personnel: setting a team to monitor the situation closely 24/7 and coordinate with related agencies in case of emergency
Power users: requesting cooperation from the business sector, industrial sector, and the public to save electricity from July 29 to August 13, 2024, especially between 6.00 and 9.30 p.m., the peak period of the south.

“EGAT is fully prepared to implement the measures to deal with the JDA-A18 gas supply cut and will monitor the situation closely. Please be assured that the power system in the South will remain secure and adequate, without affecting the daily activities of the public,” EGAT Deputy Governor concluded.
