The 31st Mae Moh Half Marathon was grandly organized, impressing runners from all over the country with its green running route. It is the first half marathon course in the northern region certified by the World Athletics with Road Race Label, stimulating the economy and raising the standard of sports tourism through the largest electricity-generating landmark of the North.

On October 20, 2024, Lampang Province, Lampang Provincial Administrative Organization, Lampang Chamber of Commerce, Thai Mass Participation Sports Trade Association, and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) organized a running competition in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, the 31st Mae Moh Half Marathon, to win the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy. Miss Nitiya Pongpanich, Deputy Governor of Prae Province; Mr. Wipoo Piwat, EGAT Deputy Governor – Generation; and the general public joined the opening ceremony at EGAT Mae Moh, Mae Moh District, Lampang Province.

Miss Nitiya Pongpanich, Deputy Governor of Lampang Province, congratulated that Mae Moh Half Marathon has become a global running competition by being certified by the World Athletics with Road Race Label for its half marathon course for the first time in the North. This will help stimulate the economy and make Lampang Province widely known for sports tourism. Additionally, runners can join in commemorating the 72nd birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Rama X and the 92nd birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.

Mr. Suttipong Chalermkiat, EGAT Assistant Governor – Generation 2, added that the 31st Mae Moh Half Marathon was joined by both Thais and foreigners with over 2,400 runners participating in the race. The course passes through unseen sceneries surrounded by colorful seasonal flowers and limestone mountains. The course also comes close to Mae Moh Power Plant, the largest electricity generation source in the northern region; Huai Pet Reservoir; and Mae Kham Reservoir, providing new viewpoints for sports tourism. Moreover, the results of the Mae Moh Half Marathon for the 21.1 km distance can be used as a reference to register for other international competitions of World Athletics.

Over the past 31 years, the Mae Moh Half Marathon has not only cared about the finishing line, new records, and new champions, but also created happiness and good health for the runners as well as raised the tourism standard for Lampang Province with sports, stimulating the economy for hotels, accommodations, restaurants, community products and shops, and various historic and cultural tourist attractions. As for the income after deducting expenses, it will be given to the Lampang Province Welfare and Development Fund to be used for public benefit activities and scholarships for the Lampang youth.
