EGAT wins Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Awards 2024

EGAT has received the Best Performance Award for its cybersecurity advancement at the Prime Minister Award: Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Awards 2024. The award reflects its commitment to enhancing cybersecurity standards and deploying modern technologies to prevent and respond to cyber threats.

On January 13, 2025, Dr. Nahathai Thewphaingarm, Vice Minister for Office of the Prime Minister, presided over the awarding ceremony for the Prime Minister Award: Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Awards 2024 which awards agencies that have outstanding performance in cybersecurity in 2024. The event, organized by the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), aimed to encourage agencies in information technology as well as public and private sectors to improve capabilities in preventing, addressing, and mitigating cyber threats. Mr. Somsak Klumklai, Assistant Governor – Digital Technology of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), represented EGAT to receive the Best Performance Award in the category of cybersecurity advancement at TK. Palace Hotel & Convention, Bangkok.

Mr. Somsak Klumklai, EGAT Assistant Governor – Digital Technology, stated that the award reflects EGAT’s leadership in advancing cybersecurity standards and commitment to enhancing the security of Thailand’s digital infrastructure. EGAT carries out system and human resource development to address complex and evolving cyber threats. EGAT’s operations adhere to international standards, having received ISO/IEC 27001 certification for Information Security Management and adopting the NIST Cybersecurity Framework for public utilities, electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.  Moreover, EGAT implements the NERC CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection) for electricity transmission and system control, 24/7 cyber threat prevention measures, and cybersecurity drills. EGAT also collaborates with other agencies, such as Ministry of Energy, Provincial Electricity Authority, Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and PTT Public Co., Ltd., to share information on cyber threats. EGAT aims to be a model organization in cybersecurity and expand the collaborative network domestically and internationally, to enhance the security of the country’s critical infrastructure sustainably.
