Chula and EGAT join forces to conduct research on hydrogen production from renewable energy, driving Thailand toward a clean energy future

EGAT and Chula Unisearch of Chulalongkorn University have signed a research fund agreement on “Applying ESG principles to support EGAT’s sustainable project in producing hydrogen and its derivatives from renewable energy.” The collaboration aims to promote development focused on the environment, society, and governance guided by international standards, while also translating the principles into practical applications that drive clean energy and support Thailand’s sustainable development.

Mr. Narin Phoawanich, Deputy Governor – Fuel and Acting Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and Mr. Supichai Tangjaitrong, Managing Director of Chula Unisearch, signed the research and innovation fund agreement on “Applying ESG principles to support EGAT’s sustainable project in producing hydrogen and its derivatives from renewable energy.” The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Professor Pisut Painmanakul, Member of the EGAT Board of Directors and Chairman of the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee, at EGAT Headquarters in Nonthaburi Province on September 15, 2025.     

Mr. Narin Phoawanich, Deputy Governor – Fuel and Acting Governor of EGAT, stated that EGAT recognizes the importance of its mission to generate electricity while also reducing CO2 emissions, to support the government’s policy of energy transition to achieve Carbon Neutrality. The research will promote knowledge on the technologies of green hydrogen production from renewable energy. By applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, the project will be assessed for its efficiency and sustainability, in compliance with international standards, in the dimensions of “eco-friendliness, community well-being, and transparent governance.” The collaboration will enable Thailand and EGAT to achieve energy transition efficiently and securely, while also providing long-term benefits to society.

Mr. Supichai Tangjaitrong, Managing Director of Chula Unisearch, added that Chula Unisearch takes pride in applying new integrated research knowledge to support the development of clean energy innovations and the practical implementation of ESG principles through the collaboration with EGAT. The agreement aims to drive Thailand toward a sustainable clean energy future, while also fostering knowledge, innovations, and human resources that will serve as key drivers of the country’s development.
