Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon revealed that during the ongoing global energy transition toward a low-carbon society and Net Zero Emissions by 2050, Thailand requires clear policies, advanced technologies, and collaboration from all sectors to achieve these goals. The key technological drivers of the energy transition include Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Smart Grid, Digital Energy Management System, and hydrogen. These technologies play a vital role in ensuring energy security and increasing the country’s competitiveness. The Ministry of Energy is cooperating with all domestic and international sectors to develop an energy system that is secure, sustainable, fair, and eco-friendly. It also supports research and development on clean energy technologies to create new economic opportunities for the country.

At the event, the Minister of Energy also delivered a special keynote on “Quick-Big-Win Energy Policies,” reflecting the national proactive vision in accelerating a tangible energy transition with practical short-term outcomes. The five short-term projects include the Community Solar Farm Project, Solar-powered Agricultural Water Pumping Project, Solar-powered Irrigation Pumping Project, Tax Incentive Solar Installation Project, and Governmental Solar Project.

Moreover, the Ministry is pushing ahead with the implementation of three EGAT floating solar projects at Bhumibol Dam, Vajiralongkorn Dam, and Srinagarind Dam, with a total generating capacity of 1,638 MW. The Ministry is also developing energy infrastructure to support the industrial sector, including the Direct PPA and the transmission and distribution system development in the EEC, a long-term energy security to meet the country’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 through the new Power Development Plan (PDP), and the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. The “Quick-Big-Win project” is expected to boost the economy of over 1 trillion baht, create over 29,000 jobs, and reduce CO2 emissions of over 10 MtCO2e per year.

Mr. Narin Phaowanich, EGAT Governor and President of IEEE PES Thailand, said that the IEEE PES Dinner Talk 2025 was held under the theme “Power Grid and Energy Resource Transition: Challenges, Opportunities, and Supportive Measures.” The event served as an essential platform for energy leaders and experts to exchange visions, policies, and cutting-edge technologies, paving the way for advancing Thailand’s power system toward fairness and sustainability and the country’s concrete progress in energy transition. Collaboration among the public sector, private sector, and academic institutions will play a crucial role in driving Thailand toward a sustainable and globally competitive energy system.

As the country’s main energy organization, EGAT continues to carry out its mission in line with the Ministry of Energy’s policies. It aims to balance the energy system, ensure energy security, enhance sustainable environmental stewardship, and increase the country’s competitiveness. EGAT also supports the IEEE PES Thailand in organizing the “IEEE PES GTD Asia 2025,” to showcase the capabilities of Thailand’s energy industry on the global stage and promote the exchange of clean energy innovations among countries.

The IEEE PES Dinner Talk 2025 also featured the 2025 awarding ceremony to honor outstanding engineers and personnel in the energy sector, along with a panel session in which representatives from PEA, MEA, and EGAT shared their perspectives on the power grid transition amid rapidly changing energy technologies and power demand.

The IEEE PES Thailand is determined to serve as a national and global hub for energy knowledge exchange, promoting continued collaboration and innovation of electricity and energy for Thailand. It gets ready to host the “IEEE PES GTD Asia 2025,” bringing together energy experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs from around the world to drive power and energy innovation toward a sustainable, low-carbon society. The event will be held on November 26–29, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok.
