The Permanent Secretary of the Energy Ministry visited the EGAT’s substation in the EEC to monitor the progress of power transmission upgrades in supporting the data center industry. The project is now ready for partial power delivery.

On February 13, 2026, Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, visited Phanthong Substation of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in Chonburi Province to monitor the project progress of power transmission upgrades in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The project aims to support the demand of large power consumers in the data center industry, aligning with the Quick Big Win Policy of the Ministry of Energy. The Permanent Secretary was welcomed by Mr. Sanay Treekhan, Deputy Governor – Transmission System Operation, and Mr. Teerawut Wetatham, Deputy Governor – Transmission System Development, and EGAT executives.

Mr. Teerawut Wetatham, Deputy Governor – Transmission System Development, said that the power transmission upgrades at Phanthong Substation in Chonburi Province were endorsed by the National Economic and Social Development Council. The project is part of EGAT’s long-term investment plan to support large power consumers by ensuring a secure and stable power supply in the EEC. These upgrades align with the government policy of promoting investments in various industries, especially the urgent demand from data centers, totaling 1,150 MW. The upgrades include establishing three new delivery points for the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), namely 150 MW Rayong 2 Substation, 250 MW Phanthong Substation, and 250 MW Phanthong 2 Substation (Temporary), and the transformer capacity expansion at Pluak Daeng Substation of 350 MW and at Sattahip 1 and 2 Substations of 150 MW in total.

At present, the delivery point at Rayong 2 Substation has been completed, while the delivery points at Phanthong Substation and Phanthong 2 Substation (Temporary) are scheduled to be operational in February and December 2026, respectively. Moreover, the transformer capacity expansion at Pluak Daeng Substation is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

This visit reflects the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to the government policy in upgrading Thailand’s power grid for meeting the high electricity demand of data center industry. The grid upgrades enhance the investors’ confidence while ensuring power adequacy and security in the EEC.
