Fire put out at South Bangkok Power Plant’s decommissioned unit

         EGAT thanked all sectors for helping to quickly put out the fire at South Bangkok Power Plant’s decommissioned unit. There were three minor injuries, all had received medical treatment and were safe.

         Mr. Suttipong Chalermkiat, Assistant Governor – Corporate Strategy and Deputy Spokesperson of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that at 9 am on October 8, 2021, a fire incident was found at the condenser equipment of South Bangkok Power Plant, Unit 5 in Samut Prakan Province. This unit was a decommissioned unit currently being demolished. The officials were able to put out the fire at 11 am without affecting the community, the surrounding area, and the electricity supply. The incident led to three minor injuries; two EGAT contract employees and a civilian. All the injured received first aid medical treatment at the South Bangkok Power Plant infirmary and were safe.

         As for the cause of the fire, from initial investigation, it was caused by sparks from demolishing equipment. South Bangkok Power Plant and related agencies will quickly and carefully investigate the cause of fire and evaluate the damage cost.

         EGAT would like to thank the firefighters and various organizations who gave support and helped control the fire quickly, and would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by this incident. EGAT will instruct those involved to make sure the incident will not occur again.
