EGAT wins six awards from ASEAN Energy Awards 2021

          EGAT received six awards from ASEAN Energy Awards 2021 for environmentally-friendly coal management of Mae Moh Power Plant and Mine, sustainable community development, and energy conservation promotion, with a concern on public participation for every dimension.

          Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that EGAT as a representative of Thailand could win six awards from ASEAN Energy Awards 2021 organized by ASEAN Centre for Energy. The six awards are comprised of five excellent awards relating to coal mining and power plant management from ASEAN Coal Awards 2021, and one first runner-up award from ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards 2021 in the category of Green Building (Large Building). The awards received reflect Thailand’s intention on energy conservation and power plant management with environmental friendliness along with a concern on public participation for every dimension which grants acceptance and praise on the international stage.

          The five awards from ASEAN Coal Awards 2021 EGAT has won are comprised of:

          – Corporate Social Responsibility Category

          EGAT has won this award for 4 consecutive years. For this year, EGAT received this winner award for “Green CSR” by Mae Moh Mine. The mine is managed with a concern on environmental impact and participation of locals, including restoring mining area to be forest and recreational areas. The reforestation project was executed covering an area of 12,000 rai, while Lampang Hotspot application was created for the locals to monitor smog and forest fire in Lampang Province. Moreover, there was development of innovation for the community under the project of premium organic and chemical fertilizer by leonardite. EGAT also plans to develop Mae Moh Smart City for the community to be self-reliant and develop a sustainable social enterprise.

          – Special Submission Category

          EGAT won two awards, namely a first runner-up award for Geoid Model MAEMOH2019 by Mae Moh Mine, which enhances vertical coordinate system to apply with the modern survey technology for the operation of the mine, and a second runner-up award for the improvement of ash and gypsum conveyor belt system by Mae Moh Power Plant that prevents dust spread.

          – Surface Coal Mining Category

          EGAT received the second runner-up award for the “Transformation to Sustainability” by Mae Moh Mine which gives an importance on environmental protection measures covering dust, smell, noise, vibration, and water quality as well as public participation in environmental impact monitoring.

          – CCT Utilization for Power Generation Category (Large)

          EGAT received this award for an environmental innovation by Mae Moh Power Plant that reflects its power plant management with environmental friendliness, making air quality around the power plant better than standards specified by Thai laws and accepted by global stage.

          Lastly, EGAT won the first runner-up award from ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards 2021 in the category of Green Building (Large Building) for the building of EGAT Learning Center – Headquarters in Nonthaburi Province as it was designed with a concern on efficient energy and resources use, certified by LEED Platinum standard of U.S. Green Building Council. This learning center also won an excellent award from Thailand Energy Awards 2021 in the category of energy conservation, the subcategory of creative building for energy conservation (new building) beforehand.
