Five parties join hand to bring clean air for Thais
30 September 2021EGAT, Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, National Research Council of Thailand, and National Telecom Public Company Limited jointly declared their intention to improve the management of air quality and environment of the country. The parties aim at expanding and building the data network of air quality monitoring nationwide to continuously develop Thailand’s database on PM2.5 situation and make public warnings.

On September 29, 2021, five parties comprising Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT governor; Prof. Dr. Supot Teachavorasinskun, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University; Clinical Prof. Dr. Niwes Nantajit, President of Chiang Mai University (CMU); Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of National Research Council of Thailand (MRCT); and Gp. Capt. Somsak Khaosuwan, Board Chairman of National Telecom Public Company Limited (TOT) signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) regarding the cooperation on data integration and network expansion of air quality monitoring for the management of air quality and environment.

The term of this MOA will be for 3 years. The data of air quality and particulate pollutant derived from the sensors of each party will be used in the development of a data center integrating information on air quality and environment monitoring to improve the management. More sensors will be installed in the target areas of the parties to expand and integrate the data network nationwide, displayed on a platform with computer and mobile phone access so that the public can easily check out the situation.

On this occasion, the seminar on the topic “Innovative Solutions and Climate Change #Togertherforbreathofthefuture” was held by the honorable experts on air quality and environment, including Prof. Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, Associate Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University; Dr. Wongkot Vijacksungsithi, Executive Vice President on Digital Business of National Telecom Plc; Ass. Prof. Tanapon Phenrat, senior expert of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and member of Sub-committee of the House of Representatives on PM2.5 Solutions; Dr. Nontapat Teerawattanasiri, Professional Public Health Technical Officer of Environmental Health Development Section of Chiangmai Health Public Center 1; and Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, EGAT Deputy Governor – Strategy. In the virtual seminar, the speakers shared their experience and updated innovations, new platforms, and directions on air pollution solutions, with the intention to make the public ready for the issue and jointly improve the air quality and environment to bring clean air for the wellness of Thai people.
