Special tourist train to Lampang is launched to visit EGAT Mae Moh’s Mexican sunflower field
7 December 2021SRT and EGAT launched a special tourist train to explore Lampang Province where tourists enjoyed the cool breeze and floating fog above the Mexican sunflower field at EGAT Mae Moh. This special train was expected to stimulate local economy and promote community-based tourism.
Mr. Suttipong Chalermkiat, Assistant Governor – Sustainability Management and Deputy Spokesman of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that from December 3-6, 2021, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and EGAT held a trip “Catch the train to explore EGAT Mae Moh,” which is a project under tourism collaboration between SRT and EGAT to promote economic growth of the country. In this trip, the tourists enjoyed a special travel experience in the province where EGAT’s power plant is located. Amidst the cool breeze, they were fascinated by the charm of Lampang city, including paying homage to Buddha’s relics at Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan; viewing the fog on the sky walk surrounded by the Mexican sunflower field on an area of 500 rai and by several species of flowers like Celosia, Cutter, Yellow Cosmos, Cosmos, and Sunhemp fully blooming to show their beauty; and enjoying a hill slide, the only natural sliding field with a 180-degree view of the mine. Moreover, at the Museum of the Lignite Study Center (Mae Moh Mine), the tourists could learn about the coal mining process, which helps maintain the power system security of the country; and at Nammorn Village, they explored the 1,300-year community way of life. To end the trip, they bought community products at Kong Ta Market, to help distribute income and stimulate local economy.
Apart from promoting tourism, SRT and EGAT plan to integrate 3 operations, namely transmission grid improvement to support the country’s logistics development, a study of potential railway routes to develop transmission system infrastructure and promote Thailand to be an energy hub of the region, and resources management for mutual benefits to drive the economic growth and find new business opportunities.
