EGAT – Seagate Thailand Sign a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Sale and Purchase Agreement to Support Greenhouse Gas Reduction, Moving Towards Carbon Neutrality
14 February 2022EGAT and Seagate Thailand have recently agreed on one of the highest value of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) sales agreements in Thailand. The agreement aims to support renewable energy development and green business as well as to reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions to move towards carbon neutrality.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Mrs. Piangruetai Sivaratana, Thailand Country Manager and Vice President of Korat Operations of Seagate Technology (Thailand) Ltd. signed a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Sale and Purchase Agreement in late January 2022 at EGAT headquarters. The agreement shows strong support in promoting renewable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Thailand.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano said, “EGAT has a policy to promote and develop electricity generation from renewable energy within the country. EGAT sells REC produced from EGAT power plants and also certifies REC produced by other power plants in Thailand. Today, it is a good opportunity to sign the sale and purchase agreement of 2.2 million REC with Seagate Thailand. This is the highest value of REC sale and purchase agreement ever signed in Thailand, which shows both organizations’ commitment to produce and consume electricity generated from renewable energy that is environmentally friendly. This should also stimulate green energy businesses to join in solving climate change issue as well as respond to Thailand’s mission of greenhouse gas emissions reduction.”

Mrs. Piangruetai Sivaratana said, “As a global technology leader, Seagate is committed to developing and maintaining sustainable and responsible practices in all of the communities it operates. Thailand has been a trusted partner and home for Seagate for almost 40 years, and today, we are delighted to be part of EGAT’s initiative for renewable energy. By signing this REC purchase agreement, 100% of Seagate Thailand’s electricity consumption will be from renewable energy sources until 2025. This will enable us to meet and exceed our targets for greenhouse gas emissions reduction.”
