Three electricity authorities join hands for electricity infrastructure development to avoid redundancies and benefit the public optimally

EGAT, MEA, and PEA held the three-electric utility board meeting to seek for the integration of future investments on electricity infrastructure, enhance the unity of work direction to avoid redundancies, and support renewable energy transition.

On March 9, 2022 at Vibhavadee Ballroom B, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, Mr. Kulit Sombatsiri, Chairman of Board of Directors, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) chaired the meeting “Integration of Electricity Infrastructure Investments” among Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), and EGAT. The meeting attendees included Air Chief Marshal Charnrit Plikarnon, MEA Board of Director; Mr. Yodphot Wongrukmit, PEA Board of Director; and the Board of Directors of the three electricity authorities. The meeting aimed that they would have the same direction of infrastructure investment, which will not add cost burden shouldered by the public.

The Chairman of EGAT Board of Directors said that Thailand is on its way towards renewable energy and green energy era, and this energy transition needs cooperation among all electric utilities. Over a period of time, EGAT, MEA, and PEA have worked together to develop the electricity infrastructure in accordance with the national energy reform plan which focuses on reforming the structure of electric power systems. Among the infrastructure development plans is grid modernization to support more renewable energy added to the power system and changing the behavior of consumers from the use of electric vehicles, installment of solar rooftop in household and industry sectors, and the future availability of smart grid system.

“The integration of infrastructure investments among three electricity authorities places importance on maximum benefits of the country. It is regarded as the co-investment between Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Interior which aims for unity and collaboration to improve the power system security and support the transition to green energy era, which further drives Thailand towards the goal of carbon neutrality in 2050,” concluded the Chairman of EGAT Board of Directors.
